My FD3 was manufactured in Dec of 1991... so I will be getting it in Jan of 2007 to comply with the 15 year old import rule. It's 100% legal, just the way I got my Skyline GT-R in....

Thanks!
Mitch

I can't help but feel somewhat advertised to.

So, to throw some alternatives out there,

http://www.used-car-japan.com/catego...rt=&direction=

is a nice list of canadian importers.

http://www.importconcern.ca/ has imported alot of cars for guys out west and seems to do good business that many people have been happy with.

I've heard good things about this company.

has anyone here dealt with them before, and if so, what was your impression?

That is one hot FD. I want to get my hands on an original 12a turbo FB GSL-SE. There were also other weird turbo versions. One of them had a 165mph top speed ( but I am not sure if it was just something the British Mazda dealerships did on their own)

I know a guy who's importing Japanese vehicles to re-sell as a side business. He doesn't think the 15 year loophole will be around too much longer. Not too long ago a 15 year old vehicle really wasn't that good, so no one bothered unless it was a very valuable classic or something, but now we're getting good cars that are still worth importing and driving like R32 Skylines and FD's and what not, so the rate at which they're being imported is skyrocketing. The increased rate, and the lax scrutineers (in some cases) are causing this loophole to be getting a lot more attention these days.

As a precaution, you should know that the lights and windows (IIRC on the windows, possibly more stuff) need to be DOT approved and carry the DOT mark, if not they're supposed to fail you for it. Apparently they're getting much more aggressive on this issue. So, when importing a vehicle, be prepared to have to replace all the lights and windows with those off of a North American car.

In Ontario there is no DOT approval required... rather the basic safety and emissions are done. In Alberta they need you to install day time running lights and some reflective side markers, plus headlights need to be DOT compliant (easy to do with an FD) In Quebec they want to see DOT on the windows... Skylines have all these and are readily passed in the provinces.

In regards to shutting down the import rule? Who knows... One thing for sure, if they do shut it down, all the existing cars will skyrocket in value!!!

The guy I know is in Alberta, so I guess it's stricter there, but he was saying that the Skylines do not have DOT taillights so somthing creative has to be done, because there's no DOT compliant replacements.

They are getting Pissy bout the DOT headlights trying to disscourage imported Cars.. but there is always a way round it..

worse comes to worse get DOT approved headlights.. attach pass inspection.. then replace with original lights..

The good thing with the FD's is that all the DOT approved parts are readily available here in North America...

The FDS's south of our border also fall under the 15 year rule. That means you can import a 1993 model (production date 1992) and be exempt from RIV's program. Just pay duty and taxes, that's it.
