I Went To A Demolition Derby And A Race Broke Out!

Well our race day at Mosport was something else! Race 1 we started 46th and the wrecking started early! there were almost no laps without a caution flag somewhere on the track and then a big wreck between turns 3-4. We ended up finishing 24th with a very evil handling race car -- alittle too much air in the tires, like about 47 - 48 lbs all the way around. Race 2 was even a bigger disaster! Only 42 cars started, so we lost 4 in the race before. We made some changes to the car and decided to start at the back again. Right off the start 2 Sentra's and a Civic went 3 wide in 2 and almost took out us all out! Then the leading Porsche GT3 went and totalled itself between turns 9 and 10. They then red flagged the race. We restarted all over again and we went back to the back. I think we passed about 8 cars on the 1st lap that time. Another restart and on lap 2 there was a 9 car wreck right infront of me going into turn 1, the only ything that kept me out of it was the awesome brakes on the 7. Another red flag. After the next restart (only 38 cars this time) 2 cars went off in turn one one lap 2 and we had a single corner yellow in turn 1, and someone else went off in 5 so we had a single corner yellow in 5. We had a 6 lap race and we finished 23rd this time. The only good thing of the weekend was we didnt get taken out in all the mayhem and we didnt hurt the car mechanically! And people think lapping days are dangerous! I think on the day 1 close wheel driver was taken away in the ambulance and then 3 open wheel drivers later in the day! I really have to thank my crew chief Chris (coneman) James for all his me calm on the radio all day and warning me about impending mayhem. If it wasent for him I would have packed up and the 2nd red flag. The rest of the crew was awesome as well, cleaning the tires between races and making sure everything was safe!

The GT3 cup car belongs to a friend's dad...scary seeing him stretchered into the ambulance and heartbreaking seeing the remains of the car. Glad that he's relatively ok with just a concussion. He was having a fantastic weekend right up to that moment. A lot of his family had attended to watch him race too and they were pretty shaken up.

Wow, we left around noon, but watched the GT race right before. That porsche was really flying out there, that sucks to hear he had an accident.

In the race we watched there was a good battle between the can-saf 3 rotor and the yellow tube frame third gen, but after some back and forth only the can-saf car was left, not sure what happened to the other.

From what I understand after talking to Kurt at Can-Saf, they broke another transmission in race 2, that car is awesome, he went by me like I was standing still! The tube frame car may have hurt the engine I havent spoken to Patrick about it. As for our car, I understand what RTFM (read the f'ing manual) means all to well again! After struggling all year to find the handle on the #01 car, I realized that we are 6-10 lbs too high in tire pressure! After reading the recommended pressures from Hoosier we should be at 35 LBS or less! We thought they should be around 40 plus! That would kind of explain why the car felt like it was driving on ice all the time! I was thinking spring rates, shocks, sway bars and god knows what! From what I understand they right pressures should be good for 2-4 seconds a lap depending on the driver (me)! Now I want to get out again and find the right set up with the tires before making any more changes!

Yeah it was a pretty interesting weekend. Saturday we Qualified 6 with our best time of the year 1:29.5 with a custom built race trany that we used for the first time at mosport. Saturday's race on the back straight shifted into 3rd gear and than wanted to shift to fourth and didn't want to come out of third.

Saturday night went back to the shop and put a used 2nd gen trany we had.

Sunday mourning practice the trany work pretty good. We were off pace with the different gear ratio from Saturday. But at least we could race. So for the first race we started 46 made it up to about 10 place in lap 6 or 7 Having a good race with Sean Tenpow in the tube frame 3rd gen. We were coming up to lap two cars in corner 2 Sean was in front and went to the outside to lap the two cars in corner 2, I went to the inside and got by all of them. Sean pulled off the next lap. And I finished 9th in the race With Our BEST TIME OF THE YEAR 1:29.0

Last race of the day. After the two red flags and two laps into the race again on the back straight tried to shift to 4th nope. This time we got neutral and 2nd gear.

Maybe we can hit 1:28 if we get the race trany fixed for the last race.

Hopefully we get some sponsor for next year and get a Hewland gearbox

Yeah it goes pretty good

And to think we still need some final tuning, Better suspension, Proper gear ratio (hewland) And drop some weight off the car.

I can't wait to drive the car next year.
