I need new tires and hub centers for my new rims.

I recently picked up some 5Zigen Typhoon's. 17"x8 - front and 17"x9 rear.

Now I need new rear tires, they currently have P245's on the rear and I'm looking to go with a wider tire, something like a 265 or 275.

Does anyone have any info or experience with the Yokohama Advan A032R or the Falken Azenia GRB FK-451?

Also looking for the hubs that center the rims on the stock hubs. Anyone know where I can get a set? or know what sizes I need?

Thanks
Joe

I had same width wheels and ran 225/45 and 245/40 Front and 255/40 Rear.

I found that the 255/40 fit the 9 inch rim very well and would stick with that.

The A032's were a blast. They lasted more than 15,000kms with a few track events mixed in there. If you don't mind the tire droaning (a la Mud Digger tire) the Yokohamas were nice to have.

I did go on to change these for Toyo T1S (softer side of me getting the to call the shot) and quickly went back to another race compound tire, the A048. So far so good, considering that I am using the car as a weekend toy, if that.

Just curious as to why you would want to go with a wider tire on the rear as this will create more understeer in the car.

What offsets are you running?

To fit a 275 on an FC, you'll need a pretty low offset.

Go to the Suspension/Wheels/Tires section - they should have some answers for you.

I cheaped out and bought some crappy 255's.
The car will be used for drag racing and will spend most of it's time sideways through corners, so I'll just keep buying cheap tires.....

i hope you aren't directly comparing those 2 tires, because they are definetly very different, lol.

the A032R is a great "streetable" competition tire, though the wear and temp is a little much for the street, it's not as crazy as any of the full on race tires from Hoosier, etc.
don't know much about the FK-451 (which is not actually part of the Azenis line), but it seems like it is designed for larger wheel sizes and heavier cars.

as for the hubs, do you mean the "hub-centric" spacers? are you looking to push the wheels out a bit for more clearance?
well i know H&R makes them, although they aren't cheap.

iv'e got FK-451's on my 17x10" +18 RPF1's the side walls are perpendicular to the road.. on a 9" width they are going to 'try' to sidewall bubble on you.. not a good chioce for width on a 9" .. a 255 would be better in the FK451 would be a better chioce. unless our running 2.5" coiiovers or narower in the rear then a 275 wouldn't fit anyway. you'd hit the trailing arm first anyway, unless you had an offset above +22 ( in 10" anyway , probably get away with a +32 in 9" )

your looking for ' hubcentric rings' Performance improvments has them they also have the ability to check your mazda OD , just go online to get the Go Zigen ID ... the rings usually cost ~ $15

Yeah I wasn't directly comparing those two tires, I wasn't really sure what I wanted. And yes i was looking for the "hubcentric rings" the little plastic rings that center the rim on the stock hub, I also bought those with my tires.

Thanks

yeah, those hubcentric rings can be bought from a lot of places. just make sure the ID of them matches your hub diameter, and the OD matches the bore diameter of your wheels.

i think tiretrends has them, ebay has lots, etc.

i am running them, but honestly there is no difference other than the fact that MAYBE they put less stress on your studs, which is something you can't really tell

The only reason for running hub centric rings is to keep wheels from shaking by centring the rims on the hub which is usually the same thing that centres the wheels when they are balanced. If your wheels don't shake at all, then there's no need to get the rings. More than likely you rims will have a 73mm hub bore (that's the most common one) and i believe that the hub might be 67mm not sure, but it's easy to measure with a vernier.
As far a shaking goes, if the shaking is only at certain speeds- usually between 100-120 km/h then your rims/tires are out of balance. If they need hub centric rings, they will shake at pretty much all speeds and simply increase with speed.
I hope this helps you out.

GEEZ Aaron all that misinformation ( joking with ya ). Also I believe you got 60 id rings. i guess that .4 mm difference does something or not.

My rims didnt have the rings and i had slight vibration at 100 km up . Then i installed the rings ( 59.4 then sanded just a tad ) and the vibration is gone.

nope, never driven anything with A032Rs on, but really you can't tell me those 2 tires are similar?
as for the other stuff i said, only going by what i have heard from people who road race, etc. and people DO run it on the street, just that it doesn't last long of course (comparatively)...

I got my new tires installed today. They are 255 40/17 Nexen N 3000. They cost me $430 for the pair installed and balenced.

if you drive 032R's hard on the street, they last about 3000KM.

you could probably get 15K out of them if you were gentle and rotated them very frequently.

if the car is being used for drag, why don't you get some DR's for the rear?

BTW sidesways is the way i hope to facing most of the time when i get my FD
