Highway traffic act question
I would like to occasionally pick up my 7 yo daughter from school in the rx. I'm thinking that it's legal as long as she's in her booster seat and wearing her seat belt (and she doesn't have any open alcohol in her backpack lol).
Does anyone have any knowledge of this? I did a Google search but didn't really find anything specific to cars with only front seats.
Thanks...

I've been planning on bringing my 21 month old in my rx7 , I just havent switched the stock passenger seat back in.
I figure its the same thing as having a truck with a bench seat

This all depends on the age & weight of the child
"As a driver you are responsible for ensuring that passengers under 16 years of age are properly buckled into a seatbelt or child car seat. The fine for not using a child car seat as required by law is up to $500 and two demerit points. In Ontario, parents, grandparents and caregivers are all required to use proper child car seats when transporting children.
Child car seats must meet Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (CMVSS). Buckles and straps must be fastened according to the manufacturer's instructions. Newer vehicles that come equipped with a lower Universal Anchorage System (UAS) for securing a child car seat for infants and toddlers do not require a seatbelt to secure the child car seat to the vehicle. A booster seat requires a lap and shoulder belt combination. Infants who weigh less than 9kg (20lbs) must be buckled into a rear-facing child car seat attached to the vehicle by a seatbelt or the UAS. Never put a rear-facing child car seat in a seating position that has an active airbag. If the airbag inflates, it could seriously injure the child.
Toddlers nine to 18kg (20 to 40lbs) must be buckled inot a child car seat attached to the vehicle by a tether strap at the top and at the base by a seatbelt. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions when installing a child car seat in your vehicle.
Booster seats provide 60% more protection than seatbelts alone. These must be used by pre-school and primary grade-aged children who are under the age of eight and weigh 18kg or more but less than 36kg (40-80lbs) and who are less than 145cm (4'9") tall. You must use a booster seat with a lap/shoulder belt. The child's head must be supported by the top of the booster, vehicle seat or headrest.
Children may start using a seatbelt alone once any one of the following criteria is met:
- The child turns eight years old
- The child weighs 36kg (80lbs) or more
- the child is 145cm (4'9") tall or taller."

The question wasn't should they use a car seat, I think it was more around can they use the car seat in the front seat and I think the answer is yes but you turn it around so the seat faces away from the airbags.

No airbags in my 85 GS so I'm good in that respect. She's 7 and needs the booster seat according to the seat belt laws. Everything I read says she should be in the backseat (obviously) but since I don't have one I wonder if she's legally allowed in the passenger seat (like in the case of a pickup truck).

I have had this arguement with many people over the years. There is no law that says a child of a certain age cannot be in the front seat. It is strongly suggested that the back seat is the safest place, but nothing stopping you from having a child in the front seat.
Think about it... how would you enforce this? 2 seater cars, trucks, transporting 3 kids plus yourself??? The law says that you will not be able to use a vehicle, even though it passes all safety regulations??? Don't think so.
