Have You Guys Seen the New F1 Cars !!!!!!!
Just saw a photo spread of the new Ferrari F60, buurrrppp, cough, sorry I have a little something in the back of my throat. This car is by far the ugliest race car since the old Formula First class in England in the '80's.
MY GAWD who in their right mind would allow something so freakin' ugly to be the new pinnacle of motorsports. This just convinces me that F1 is going to implode and we will all be watching Grand Am style cars in the future. In fact, it makes the Grand Am Prototypes look down right beeyootiful in comparison.
What is wrong with motorsport? First we had the new ugly IRL cars, then Grand Am Prototype, then Champ Cars, A1 GP and finally the sidewinding new NASCAR Sprint Cup cars. The only really cool top level cars are LeMans Cars and any top flight GT Series from around the world, though I have to admit that the DTM, BTCC and WTCC cars look a bit odd to me.
I honestly have little desire to see 18 - 20 of those butt ugly cars driving around a track. I will be focusing on FIA GT, LeMans Europe and ALMS this year and maybe even the new Trans Am series. What do you guys think?????

looks fine to me...
rumor is they will be boosting in a few years
They used to weld the heads on for qualifying
Qualification was based on a single lap. Teams used every trick to unleash maximum power from the engines for that circuit – even if it meant they detonated on the way back to the pits.

BMW is going to kick some serious *** this year. They had a 4-5 month head start on the development for this next year. If they would have continued their mid-season development, Kubica and Heidfeld would have been contenders.
Since they started last season, preparing for this next year... I can see them being series leaders (both Kubica, and Hdfld).

I doubt they welded anything. Do you know the rules for F1? They have to keep the same engine and gearbox for a minimum amount of races/qualifying otherwise they incur a penalty. I doubt they would jeopardize their engine blowing for one or two places in qual... if it meant blowing the engine. The tolerances on those engines are so tight that if you detonated, I'm sure it would cause catastrophic damages.
Yes I know the rules.
and you fail in reading comprehension... I said they USED to do such things...
I'm talking early 80's here... when they ran boost and electronic controllers to overboost and pass.

F1 bosses are looking to bring back turbo engines and power boost buttons to spice up the show.
Turbos were banned in F1 in 1989 after the cars became too fast for the tracks.
The ‘80s saw the most insanely powerful F1 cars ever. Trackside’s Keith Collantine picks the five turbo monsters that defined a spectacular era.
Turbo power brought shocking speed and flame-belching spectacle to Formula 1 in the ‘80s.
With hundreds of extra horsepower at the touch of a button, drivers could overtake each other far more easily than today.
F1 bosses are thinking of bringing turbos back – though limited to 770hp and using biofuel to be more environmentally friendly. But wouldn’t it be great to see a return to cars like these…
So yes... I know the rules.

I was talking about race cars in general, not just F1. F1 has always been about performance, as most other sport races, but at the same time there was beaty to the madness so to speak. with certain exceptions.
Hard not to find some of this cars sexy.

I agree that the rear WING looks odd, but apparently that should be a big help to the following car so that it doesn't loose so much downforce, which should make passing easier. Looks a lot better than the twin wings in the failed center downwash concept. I do like that they've banned all the little flip ups, X wings, chimneys and so on. Makes for a much more flowing look, although it does look a bit out of proportion.

I agree with Black91n/a - the cars look much better without all the add-on aero devices that made them look like someone covered a formula car in glue, then drove it through a body kit warehouse. This looks more like a car someone designed, rather than the old ones that looked like they slapped it together and then tried to fix the aero with add-ons.

hahaha...
who cares how the cars look.
i just hope that these new cars are not going to be lapping slower than last year...and if the new wing design is supposed to improve airflow for cars directly behind, that is a good thing.

Wow those must be super efficient radiators they're using now. The side pods are tiny compared to last year. If I remember right last years car's side pods stated well before the cockpit, the '09 cars look like the side pods start right beside the driver! Super long nose too! Does anyone know when they are planning to implement the kinetic energy hybrid system?

F1 has slowly fallen apart over the years.
I was more interested in LeMans anyways.
Here's a link you guys might enjoy.

Formula 1 cars are really the product of top aero technology, and the rule set's attempts to keep them from going to fast for the tracks. Hence the odd rear wing on this year's cars - aimed at reducing downforce, and cleaner air behind to make passing easier. And the designers just go hard to work to overcome the new disadvantages thrown at them by the rules each year.
I do agree, it's an odd looking car, but more passing should make the races more interesting.
