My RX-7 turns 30 this year (Actually it turned 30 last april
) I wish I was 30 again!
I think I have the rotary flu. Ive been fasinated by these toys since I got the 79 last year
I picked up an 83 Rx-7 in Nov for it, as birthday present. It had been parked in a barn for a couple of years. The engine started and sounded good running. The tranny "feels" good based on simple shiffting. Its suppose to have a new clutch in it. However the underbody is shot. The oxide cancer is irreversable.
I plan to take the engine and tranny out as my edcuational science experiment. I then plan remove the rats nest, clean the carb area, clean and paint the engine and tranny in prep for future swaps.
Opinions
1/ Should I attempt an internal engine rebuild while it is out?
2/ Are there any other parts which I should save that are known to go?

Rebuilding an engine should be a learning experience in itself. The trick is just to double, no triple check all your work and take your time. Buy the rebuild DVD and go for it. I would suggest that you have any porting you may want to do done by a pro though. That's not something you can fix if you screw it up.
