So I'm on delivery Saturday evening. And I felt like crap - sinus headache all day.

I'd just finished a delivery and was on my way back to the store. I'm in an industrial park, sitting at a light waiting for it to change and a car pulls up beside me. A glance at the front end and I can tell it's European. Whatever.

Now, at this point, let me point out that the plugs in my car are beyond fucked - the electrodes on at least one are melted down. Plus my front diff mount is broken and the K&N air filter needs to be cleaned. Still, she's been driving just fine... Tough girl.

The light goes green. I give her a fair bit of gas. The Eurotrash beside me does, too, a moment later. So I give her more, he does too, and then we both stand on it.

He shifts. A glance tells me I'm at about 5500 - lots of room left, here comes another mini-kill.



Then I hear the goddamn BOV.

He takes off. I shift into 2nd, but it's already over so I ease off. He didn't exactly rocket away, but there was no way I could catch him.

It didn't exactly improve my day. Anyway, just wanted to share a story and maybe expunge some of my disgust.

 

I think you need to replace your plugs, clean the K&N, get some real sticky slicks.. and meet that golf again

 

um... if that was a golf gti 1.8T chipped you don't even stand a chance... my s5 TII doesn't even stand a chance if it is chipped already

they make like 235 to 240 with a chip, exhaust, intake.
far cry from my 205 (got a dp) s5 TII

 

I have driven one of those little GTI 1.8Ts and let me just say they are in no way slow. They also corner pretty well ( i had a lot of time with this car it is my buddys'.) But my 7 is still better.

 

My girlfriends 2003 Jetta 1.3T can whoop alot of 7's, In general. All I have modded to It Is a drop In K&N Filter.

Like they've said, those things are pretty fast. The 2002 models should be pretty close with a TII stock vs. stock. ....let alone modded. The 1.8T is now faster than the VR6.

All of our cars are under pressure by newer non-sports cars. (FDs are still doing fine I suppose, but there is some pressure)

 

the newest 1.8T's are ~185HP, my friend got one such jetta ..

on a GTI golf it must be wickedly faster, as weight should be really lower and suspension better.

One thing tho, they got fairly good turbo lag .. a sentra SE-R can keep up with a 1.8T for 2-3 first speeds, then the jetta wins.

With a 2000$ turbo kit from neuspeed they can get to like 240hp ..

There's always going to be something faster. Even when the FC came out, there where many faster cars available that could smoke it in a straight line. Enjoy your RX-7 for what it is and what it was. I gave up trying to keep up with the times because I know eventually even sport utes and minivans will be handing me my *** .

NEVER!! If I wanted a single I would have bought a TII. To me, the twins are what make a 3rd gen what it is... just like an RX-7 wouldnt be the same without a rotary.

I buy a car to enjoy what it is/was (with the sole exception of my 83 lol). That's why you wont see a turbo on my Savanna and a single or whatever on my FD. What's the point of pouring tonnes of $ into my FD just so I can keep up with newer Corvettes? Why not just buy the Vette . Guess I enjoy my 7's for what they are, not for what they could be.

 

You make a good point. Your FD is plenty fast.

But I don't quite agree with the Corvette statement. There is more to a perfromance car than just speed. The FD is just a much better looking car (especially with the OEM wing ). I'd rather spend money on the FD than get a Vette...although I wouldn't say no to a Vette, either!!!!

 

by any chance rich, was it white??? had some 18inchers on it and altezza tails and a dark tint job?

I raced this guy in some 2003 Toyota thing, all i had to do was stay at 140km/h but i had to negotiate some 60km/h turns that are pretty damn turny. Anywho, he would pass me in a straight line, i cought up to him in the turns, than every other turn I killed him until i made it though a light first, he got a red, and i was almost home and going the speed limit before he cought up to me again.

Yeah, I know I'm more than a stone's throw from being the fastest thing on the road, but one moment I thought I was about to eat him alive, the next I'm staring at his rear bumper right up to the next red light. I was a little pissed off. You would be, too, if you were teased like that.

I wonder if Aaron would still be willing to host the pics? And I've gotta pick up the prints sometime. I was gonna show off the van pics at work.

 

A brand new turbo golf might smoke a 11-15 year old second gen. But wait till he pulls up next to a 93-95 fc and gets spanked. Look on the bright side, Theres plenty of new civics and integras out there for our 2nd gen fcs to eat.

I have a Golf 4 Door (Silver) w/ BOV and upgraded turbo..could've been me you raced.. I live in kitchener, you've likely seen my car around. =D I didn't know there were more 1.8T's w/ BOV's in kitchener. I run a realtivly big VW site and usually most canadians post there (www.GenerationIV.com)

BTW: The 1.8T has one of the smallest turbo's and highest torque curves out there..is fully spool at just about 2700 RPM... so I donno what kind of torque the sentra has, but I know I have just touching close to 280ft/lbs @ full boost... I know that chipped 1.8T's (With stock turbo depending on chip) has about 250 Ft/lbs of torque.. no offence..but the sentra doesn't come even realativly close to that in torque figures.

a few other things to note (I know you guys aren't VW guys ) ... You can get our cars up to around 240 - 260hp (crank) with lots of bolt ons, but the turbo's are just so small.. they are european and can't really compair to that of an T3/T4 turbo.. But if you are interested in the VW 1.8T motor (which is highly tuneable) there are people out there running 400+hp (WHEEL) on stock internals. Check out www.EcsTuning.com or www.vwturbo.com or info on the "Stage 3" kits which use the T3/T4 turbos.

I once got my *** handed to me by a RX7 around here.. it was an older style one.. forgive me as I don't know the years and stuff, it was white with a hood scoop and whatnot (Turbo?).. I unfortunatly had a clogged cat and wasn't pushing over 150hp! I wanna race that guy again =D

 

BTW: My car is silver Not white LOL.. it's gotta be mine, because I do have the turbo badge, and those "rice" lights your talking about...

BTW: most of these cars run anywhere from 15.5 to 13.5 depending on mods, but always on internal engine components.

A hood scoop means turbo.

Unless it's Ryan's FC. Then the hood scoop means WVEB (Well Ventiulated Engine Bay.)

 

so have you raced a red one with an orange turbo hood? My friend has a white turbo one. has a supra spoiler on the back? and round tail lights>?

I can't remember if the car i raced was white or silver.

It stayed right with me until 3rd gear when i pulled away.

Nice car! , No I don't think I raced you, I've only ever raced 2 RX7's... the one beat me (it had a scoop) and it was white..had a huge spoiler but the hood was white if i remember, he almost lost it at the light.. and yah.. he pulled away from me in 3rd gear easily... but again.. i want another race! But a win is a win and i got beat!
