Was that o-ring that "cracked" in that set of the pictures a Viton ring from a rotor, by any chance?

No...it was a OEM ring (rubber) from the rear stationary gear, I was just showing how the rubber turns into plastic from the heat and age and fails if disturbed.

I have a 12A up for grabs if anyone is interested. I have no need for it and if anyone here needs it for anything I will just let it go for nothing. I can't guarantee the condition of anything internally but it ran fairly well before I pulled it. I pulled it due to a really bad oil leak at the dowel pin.

It's funny. 10 years ago I was trying to sell a 12A block with about 50K on it. In perfect, perfect condition. Housings were as if they came from the factory, apex seal grooves were tight, engine was perfect. Asked all of $500.

After months with almost no interest, I basically gave it away. The new owner and I pulled it apart and were both shocked as to how perfect it was inside. Housings went out to the machine shop for peripheral parts, and it was reassembled as a beast a few months later.

If I had that engine now I probably would have $1000 for it tomorrow.

Jim runs a great hands on rebuild workshop, he had a no nonsense answer for every question. I was going to take some tear down images but we were too busy getting dirty to do that! I'm looking forward to scrubbing engine parts after work for the rest of next week.

Hey Jim we spoke a long time ago when I bought the FD ECU from you.

I have a street ported 13b that was involved in an accident. I'm pretty sure it's good inside but you advised me to rebuild. Is there Anyway I can join one of these classes?

I'm sure we can do something for you...looks like mid summer at the earliest, in the meantime pull the engine and tare it down to a short block, leave the oil pan and flywheel on.

Are there any plans to do a 6-port NA rebuild? I'd like to sit in on those sessions, at some point.

John, I’m only covering basic rebuilds....but in reality 12a, 13b and 20b’s are all the same inside, porting and intake configuration and a few small changes would be the only difference. Other then rebuilding a core the rest is up to the owner of the engine to complete.

Alrighty then.
Please put me on the waiting list to join you at the next opportunity.

Are these two part sessions?
- First session to tear down and measure tolerances to determine what is salvageable and what needs replacing? Create the shopping list of parts and gaskets?
- Second session to assemble?
