Getting engine swapped in Vancouver area.
The engine in my N/A '87 Rx7 has 231,000km on it and smokes coolant above 6,000 RPM. I'm planning to get it rebuilt in the next couple weeks. I also need a clutch job done on it and prefer to have the rebuilt engine ported.
I've contacted Eunos Custom in Vancouver. Chris is cool but it seems Marko at Force-fed in Langley seems to stand more behind his work. He would do the rebuild and clutch job for $3500 and porting for $150.
My core should be mostly usable (maybe the housings are too old though). They both want to take my engine out and replace it with a rebuilt one, but Eunos imports them from Alberta whereas Force-fed rebuilds their own.
Who should I go to? [[I also had Steve Wallace's phone number and talked to him once but I lost it! anyone have it?]]
Is this price reasonable? should I expect the oil pump and lines to be done as well?
Any other advice?

Hey there, head over to BCRotary.com and join us!
There are a lot of threads and opinons about the local shops on there, and you are bound to get some usefull info. The Canadian section of this forum is a great place to look as well.
If you are in Surrey, I'll probably see you around!

The price is reasonable if it includes labour, which it undoubtedly would if they mentioned they would do the clutch as well - an obvious thing with the engine out. Ask what the $150 porting gets you exactly. Other incidentals that can end up costing you more as they tear through it would be the oil lines from the metering pump, oil cooler lines, water pump (if the rebuilder doesn't use a new pump on the rebuilt engine), the odd sensor and/or actuator, EGR valve, etc. Good shops generally allow the customer to be present for the teardown and/or reassembly. If that is offered, it's generally a good sign - ask questions, stay informed, rotorheads love to go off on their weird tangents. It's also good for you to assess what happened to your current engine and what to expect from a new engine. We encourage all of our customers to excercise that right. Welcome to the forum. Buckle up and enjoy the ride.
