Fire extinguisher

So one of the must haves when you at the track is a fire extinguisher. But now I have learnt it also a must have when you drive around a significantly modified car in our case rx7

I had a scare when a fuel line failed to the fpr and guess what hot exhaust and gas is catastrophic but lucky I was visiting a friends garage and we saved it no damage really.

So what type of fire extinguisher do I need and any suggestions when do I find it.

So recap INSTALL FIRE EXTINGUISHERS.

they mark the extinguisher for what it can be used for.
I am pretty sure the A,B,C(all) type is good for cars.

A CO2 extinguisher costs more but will be less damage to your interior - if it's used in the cabin.

Always kept one in every car I've owned. Luckily I've never had to discharge it on my own vehicle, but on two separate occasions I've stopped at the side of the 401 and put someone else's car out.

I had a Co2 extinguisher, but its somewhere at the shop... Honestly, I think the foam dudes are cooler and slightly better as they can cover the fire pretty quick. But then again, its hell to clean up after

ON

Get a minimum of 5 pounds. The ones they sell at Canadian Tire for use in cars are like 2 or 2.5 pounds, and last about 5 to 7 seconds of discharge time, which is not long enough to put out a fire.

Dry chemical BC. More efficient in small quantities than CO2 but makes a mess.

ABC dry chemical ones are the ones you want, do a long term borrowing in a construction site. the JLG lifts have nice ones on it. they are ABC dry chemical and it comes with the bracket.

you want a dry chemical, because a wet one will probably make a mess and dry is easier to clean

Lots of threads on this stuff, but the general consensus is Halon is the best stuff there is.

https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/my-fire-extinguisher-mount-997181/

From best to worst (in my opinion and research):

Halon
Halotron
aqueous film forming foams
sodium bicarbonate dry chemical
ammonium bicarbonate dry chemical
potassium bicarbonate dry chemical
not carrying anything and watching your car burn down

The cold fire extinguishers that come in an aerosol can (or bigger extinguishers) look really nice and very effective, however they're quite expensive and hard to get here in Canada
