Yea I tore it up pretty good. Oh well it's looking like the car might get a TII swap now so all that will be in the past. I just have to find the time and a space to do it. Damn winter and all it's snow tires!

Well I thought I'd update everyone seeing as how it's been forever....or at least it feels like it. I finally got my car back together and running today after a lot of waiting on parts and one LATE night of turing wrenches. The TII swap fell through so I repaired the old engine like I had planned. We ended up using a larger thrust spacer than the engine originally had. When I took it apart the spacer that was in the engine was a V. We had to use a K to get the correct endplay which led us to believe that the cause of the whole thing was too much endplay. Over time it just hammered away the torrington bearing and then chewed into the thrust plate.
I took the engine right out of the car and cleaned out the oiling system as well as I could. The oil pan had plenty of debris in the bottom of it but the oil pump pick up was pretty clean. Kevin and I worked untill sometime around 1:30 am on Thursday night reassembling the engine, and putting it back in the car. (Next time there will definitally be beer. ) We cleaned the oil cooler and built the new cooler lines. I finished it up today and it roared back to life on the first try. Now I just have to wait untill spring to take it out for a good run.

what was used as a spacer before and what you
had to use with the new bearings means very little.
you could have ordered 3 sets of new bearings and races and
needed 3 different spacers, you just dont know what spacer will
be needed until your put them together.
as for how the old ones ended up i would still say to tight
I have seen damage from to loose but never that bad.
