Dubai Laughs at our Drag Racing!

Americans have it easy down a 1/4 mile sticky tar strip. These guys do 6.9 seconds up a steep desert hill!

thats pretty cool... they do not have a problem making power but they need more investment in suspension the hopping is slowing them down

they're not doing a 1/4 mile though, maybe 200 feet. it's nothing the same as drag racing and the states have the same thing. it's called hill climb

this one was actually from Finland though

i prefer the norwiegen (sp?) hillclimbers to the sand climbers.. huge power an even huger *****. what kills me about the sand racers is the open turbos in a desert, im guessin u get one shot at that hill.. maybe two an then u rebuild. i had a friend of mine work over there for a while an he said the money they throw around is truely sick.

A friend of mine worked in Kuwait before the first Gulf War, back then same thing - said the desert outside of Kuwait City was littered with wrecked/ruined cars and SUVs, much like the Indian reserves around Calgary used to be. All kinds of crazy and reckless racing in those oil-rich countries on lightly travelled superhighways, with little regard for ruined vehicles or landscapes. Rich kids and young adults with more money than they know what to do with.

I've heard Dubai is on the rocks in a big way right now - way overspent on those lavish towers and resorts and artificial island communities, and now with the recession and lower oil prices, personal and business bankruptcies are rampant. Since foreigners, who make up most of the population, especially the working population, like in many Gulf states, can be jailed for defaulting on loans/mortgages, many are fleeing the country.

Tempting as it might be to gloat over Dubai's financial problems, they owe boatloads to foreign banks and investors, so there are worries this could touch off a new round of bank failures and recession, so not good news.
