Angry Do you allow ppl to call Dibs??

Just wondering what everyone else does out there. If your selling something to someone you've never met will you let them call dibs, and hold it for them? I have always done this but after dealing with recent transactions i dont think this will be happening anymore.

guy on teamfc3s that has wanted me to hold dibs so he could get all the money together for the last 3 weeks....he originally said it would take a day

guy from this club that has come to look at my black interior i have for sale, stated he wanted it but has not come to pick it up for over 2 months

Had a sale on my car which involved dibs as well that fell through but i dont want to get into that.

was supposed to meet someone from the 240 club to sell my rims to today at 730, he calls at 7 saying he cant get them for atleast two weeks. I had been holding the rims for him for the last 4 days and was already on my way to meet him.

In my opinion when you call dibs on a item is should be as stong as a legal contract. Unless when you see the product there is something drastically wrong with it then you must buy it.....stuff like this makes me mad

A person can cal "dibs" all they want unless they give a deposit(even that holds time limits) than first to put cash in hand gets item.

BTW tell me about your rims....?

Not sure if people are familiar with Red Flag Deals.
Pure online selling/trading.
Been doing it for years.

I just was a victim of a back out guy on couple items I was selling. Pretty annoying.
I do usually take dibs. But I usually see how fast they respond to PM's, and their overall way of presenting themselves. Greetings, regards. How professional and serious they seem about the item.

Usually really informal kid like PM's I won't take dibs - I'll just say "ok you want it, so does the next guy. If you pay me by ___ then it's yours" something along those lines.

If the person is polite, then I'll try to work out a method of payment asap and when I'll get it. Then arrange how he/she gets the item.

like everything - it all depends

i take dibs but with in reason. I hate waiting for guys to pay. If I can't get a response in a "reasonable amount of time" then it goes back up for sale or I contact the next guy in line. I don't want to be dick, but I need to get paid. Each case is different.

I agree with First Donuts..if I want something I try to stay in contact with the seller..and if I can't do it ..i don't yank their chain..I like to deal in person..it give me a chance to meet other owners and make friends..KrazyKoncepts you would surely allow me to call dibs?..wouldn't you?...(I drove 400 km to get a battery tray ...true!)...(other deal for parts ,same area ..)..finally I don't like the idea of sending money to God Knows where to Whoever..call me old fashioned but I still like face to face deals..more secure..and you can see what you are getting ..

I've been through that run of the mill before. In the end - all you have Is your word; without that forget It.

*edit*

In my experience, If I don't know the person or member personally the term dibs Is as useless as **** on a bull.

If someone can't come up with the money within aweek i'd say they gave up thier chance to buy whatever it is. It also depends on how much you need to get rid of the item, either for money or space. If it's something small/inexpensive I'd hold onto it abit longer for someone I thought was actually going to buy it, but if its taking up space its first come first serve. It's not fair to the people with cash in hand that need the item either.

Smile

I call DIBS on everything that is ever going to sold on this forum from this date forward.

Seriously, the first one to respond with a deposit is the buyer. The deposit is dibs. But that said I always try to help out members that I know or that have bought from me in the past.

Chris..why do you think I took my car off the Classifieds..I got sick of the B.S..I held my car for a few days for 3 people..I still have it and I'm goin to use it for a parts car..I'd rather strip the **** out of it than have it go to some idiot ..I'll get the last laugh when they need parts.and I have them...and hey.. I can guarantee that the parts will work!!..(haha)..cause the whole freakin car was operational..

yea...and the car was a damn good price too..
i would've call dibs (then ofcourse buy it) if i got the space to store it...
but since i dont have the space to store it....then i wont call dibs

just ask for deposit....(even like $5 or $10)..if they are serious...they will give it to you.
