Stainless Steel body, only car made by DMC (the DeLorean Motor Company) which was founded by the guy who came up with the Pontiac GTO. Brilliant guy.
Lots of great history on this car, tons of unique (at the time) technology in that car and alot of innovation... then of course the smuggling of the drugs, but that's a different story.
The cars themselves are rare, having been very expensive to own at the time, and being the only car produced by DMC. The fall of the company means that they were un-obtainable anymore and that made them even rarer and more sought-after. Add to that the fact that a DeLorean was featured in the "Back To The Future" trilogy, which itself had a cult following, and this is what you get.
Hence all the talk of "Flux Capacitors"

It's in great shape, and the price seems fair for the condition. But frankly in my world DeLoreans are very easy to find and I could get the same car for about $17K since I know where to look.
Also his car is in too good shape for me since the first thing I'm doing with mine is cutting it up...

On the other hand, I'd definetly own one.

I have been considering the car for many years now. With a $30,000 US price tag you can get a factory refurbished one with the H.O. 200HP V6 and upgraded stereo, as well as other, 'New-Age' Options.
The modded engine is also a pretty big disappointment from my experience a well. A 200HP DeLorean is still slow even though it is better then the stock 130HP, but the price tag for that 70 extra HP is ridiculous and it sounds like absolute CRAP. The modded engine also runs HOT.

Johnny Z was not nearly as brilliant as you might think. Just had a knack for being in the right place at the right time, combined with a willingness to take money from whoever would give it to him. Just ask Ireland.
Besides, other than putting a large car motor in an intermediate body, what did he do?

i love the car since its from back to the future but its more a childs dream car then a car i would ever want to own.
Only way i would buy one is if i was ridicoulously loaded and could have a colllection of cars. In that case a mint delorian would be nice to have.....

The ad sez this car is an '83. I thought they only made DeLoreans in '81 (?)
Anyhoo, in '81 they sold new for around $35,000 CDN. For this money you got a car that could almost keep up to a 280ZX or RX7 of the same vintage--- cars that sold new back then for around 13K.

hahaha. a DeLorean? take me back to the 80s.
i think it's fair to say that car is already a collectors item.
swedish engine. italian body. british suspension. built by irish hands using american money.
i think that's the simpliest way of summing up Johnny Z's "DMC-12"

I prefer the '82s, personally. I don't like the DeLorean badge added to the hood on the '83s (though I do like the grey interiors, they were also available in '82, I believe) and I do prefer the hood creases.
Aaron, whad'ya think of the Lotus V8 conversion?

V8s are nice and certainly add the low-end grunt the car needs as well as the top end...But the shoe-horning it takes to get the engine in there isn't cool (have fun changing the spark plugs ).
John's original idea was rotary and that's the engine swap I prefer to see.
