Cosmo re porting?????????
I have recently aquired 2 housings (thanks almost) and i am wondering how to port out the exhaust ports. Has anyone done or heard of how to do this???

Done it dude, first thing you wanna get a hold of is a porting template so you don't screw up the port, i could probably fax you a nice little copy of mine .
Then you'll want either a nice air grinder and carbide bit, or a good electric grinder. i don't think they make bits small enough for dremel.
you have a PM

I have the RB race exhaust template you can borrow if you like.

If we can borrow the porting template for the exhaust that would be great. They have some diffuser installed in the ports. Someone told me an allen key will take them out?
Thanks Nik

No an allen key will not work, nor will trying to drill them out.
I read on Nopistons that some engine porters use a small metal screw and tap into the roll pin that holds the sleeve in, then just pry it out....I have tried this before, but it didn't work for me.

I was thinking about that good thing you talked me out of trying lol. How can i get those pins out as i'd like to swap the ports with my old ones???

Oh and if that doesn't work, I'm sure you and Ian will figure something out
Those engine pull pics still make me laugh!!!

you car drill them out using a concrete drill bit it's much harder then a normal bit so it won't take forever. then slide out the old nes and slinde in the new ones reinstall new ro;; pins andf you should be in the clear.
and nik i said it would take for ever with a dremel, i know first hand.

I used a screw (broke about 10 doing it) you just have to find a nice hard screw. from there put some vice grips on the screw and hit it upwards. dont bother trying to pull that is useless. Once i foudn the right screw it was acctually really easy. Dont bother trying to drill them... its useless, that metal is rediculously hard.

go buy two 13b-rew exhaust diffusers and replace the 13bRE diffusers with the REW one. Done. Btw that steel insert is super hard, it was designed for super high temp environments. You are going to need a rear die grinder and nice bits to be able to port that thing.

I have a bridgeported 13B-RE in my TII, and what we did with the exhaust ports was ditched the Cosmo sleeves and used TII sleeves. We then used a nice RB race port on the housing. Heres some pics:

I tried the screw method, busted about 30 screws and my hand doing it. It's crucial to find the right screw... I even tried tapping the pin as suggested in the linked thread. The tap simply broke into the roll pin.
My method:
If you are sourcing your sleeves from scrap housings, then you can simply destroy the aluminum of the housing to expose the pin and slide out the sleeve + pins. Then on your good housing, if you are scrapping the sleeves you can dremel the sleeve in the area of the pin from the inside of the exhaust port, then use a punch to push out the pin.
This method destroys 2 (scrap)housings, 2 (useless)exhaust sleeves. It saves all the roll pins, and it takes about 20 minutes total.
