Car transportation Ontario - Quebec

Hello once again,

I am in need of some advice.

I might be buying a non-plated FC in Ontario soon and need to get it transported to Quebec Montreal.
Does anyone know of the best, cheapest way to do this?

Is it possable to drive it all the way if i get a temp plate like what you do when you buy a used car from a dealer?

all info is greatly apritiated.

Thanks in advance.

Borrow a pickup with a hitch and rent a car dolley from U-Haul. It's 50$ a day, you could make the round trip in the same day.

Get CAA (if you have an RX-7, you'll need it). Bring your plate, put it on the car, enjoy the next couple of hours listening to how much money the tow truck driver used to make before his grow op got busted by the cops.

Feds, good advice, but just called caa to find out their pricing, it's $3/km after 10km if on basic plan, 200km if on plus plan, even with a plus plan that makes over 400km which coust 1,200$ lol

Why get an Ontario transit plate at all? Just get a Quebec plate, or a Quebec transit? Or does the car need to be inspected in Quebec before it can be registered?

Frankly, my approach would be to take a plate off one of my other cars to get a new one home. In Alberta I believe you have 2 weeks to transfer registration, so that's actually legit if the new car is replacing an existing one. Just carry the bill of sale in the car.

Ok thanks, will look into that option.

But yeah, the car does need to go though inspection before it can be registered, since it's outside of province. And since the car is in ontario, registered in nova scotia. the current owner of the car never had it registered under his name, it creates a problem.

But i will defenitly look into the option of what you sugested.

thanks.

Yeah i was sugested that, but i mean wouldn't they figure out me calling them 3 times in a row?

I'm trying to borrow a pickup truck now, if that plan fails, will just have a second driver drive it back with me.
Might be taking a risk, but oh well. Will hope for the best :P

As a soon-to-be-old-man, look at your downside risk. If you stuff the car on the way home, or even if it brakes down, it is going to cost you WAY more in fines, etc. for driving it improperly reg'd. The right OPP officer can make your day extra miserable and impound the car on the spot.

As for stacking the tows, it was actually a CAA driver that suggested it to me, and secondly, eff them, you pay for 4 tows a year, you get to use them.

didn't know there was a tow limit, but does sound like a good idea to try ^^

going to toronto this weekend to get the car. And will go with the plan you and Turb0wnd sugested and just have 3/4 diffirent trucks tow the car ^^

Just make sure you have a plate on it. CAA won't tow unplated vehicles.

And tip your driver. If you're real nice they might even call the next truck in for you.
