Canadian TX7 5th gear ratio / tooth count
Howdy,
I'm a 1999 miata 5sp owner, and I'm considering purchasing a 5th gear from a 86-91 NA RX7 for a swap to get my revs down for highway cruising. (My Miata has a .81
The following guide:
http://members.aol.com/solomiata/Drivetrain.html
http://members.aol.com/solomiata/Mia...terchange.html
lists the 87-91 NA RX7 as a .691 ratio 5th gear, with the 86 having the .711. However this is for American cars.
Is the Canadian RX7 the same ratio? I called my Mazda dealer, who won't give me the gear ratio / tooth counts, but says the same gear is used for 86-91 NA RX7's. So I suspect something is different in the Canadian cars.
Could anyone confirm the ratio of the Canadian 86-91 NA RX7's?
Regards,
Mitch

S4 and S5 have different ratios, for 5th gear anyways.
S4 N/A

S5 N/A, apparently it had 2 different ratios. The .756 ratio is only for the n/a's with the viscous lsds, but I thought that was only the turbos in S5.

86 rx-7s had a different gear ratio.. the 5th gear is the only difference .711,
from 87-91, they had a .697 5th gear except the american gtus which had a higher 5th gear ratio of .756... of course this is only n/a rx-7s
so the 86 is the only s4 that was different the rest are like the s5
i have a 89 gxl which has a 4.10 rear end, and a .697 5th gear, at 120 i'm roughly around 3000rpm... hope that helps
this info is from FSM, and Racing Beat...

Thanks for all the help guys!
Unfortunately the miata has a different input shaft ratio than the rx7, so that nice .697 5th gear becomes a .75 or something in a Miata... Better, but not by much.
There doesn't seem to be any taller ratio 5th gears out there either, unless I go custom, which would probably be a lot of cash.
Cheers,
Mitch
