Calgary: Need engine rebuild kit--- for a Firefly.
It's my daily driver for my 80-km (one way) commute. Otherwise I'd consider swapping in a rotary.
Does anybody in Calgary know of a local supplier of complete engine rebuild kits for these cars? This would be the G-10 1.0L 3-banger found in the '89 to '95 Pontiac Firefly and Geo Metro.
I've searched, but the US suppliers I've contacted haven't returned e-mails (even though they advertise this kit), and in at least one case do not ship to Canada or accept payment by Visa unless said visa is from a U.S.-based financial institution.

Looks like a fun and easy rebuild project. I would love to pull a 4th piston out of one at the wrecker and leave it on you bench so you could wonder who took away the 4th hole from the block.

Hey, thanks for the info guys. I may have just found a supplier (after days of searching) out of NJ. Their kit is $255 U.S.
I should be doing the extraction and tear-down as early as this weekend (depends on how busy we are at work). At that point I'll take measurements and figure if I need oversize anything or not.
Thanks for the offer Sean, I'll keep it in mind and scare up the necessary beer.
Gary, these engines are so easy to rebuild that if it were any easier the label would read Briggs & Stratton--- they're a single overhead cam with six valves driven directly by the cam lobes, ie: no rocker arms.
The car itself is in such excellent shape that it would be a shame not to spend the money for a rebuild kit plus $300 worth of specialty tools that I don't already have. I bought the car for $750 so even with the cost of a new clutch I'll have a max of $1500 into it plus my time plus beer by the time it's done. Not bad for a car that (at least in this province) would fetch a minimum of $2500 (private sale) with a fresh engine. Greedy used-car dealers would of course try to soak someone for twice that sum...
