Bought a tii looking for advice?
Ok so i bought this 87 rx7 from a forum member here. I was not near him so i took a flight out to get the car after i had talked to him. Apparently the cars only issues were a cracked omp line and a sunroof that was sticky.
Well as i found out that was not the case. But since i had already flown out there i had decided to take the chance and drive it the 10 hrs home. Well i did not know i was buying from another member here because it was an ad on kijiji and i did not find it here. Knowing this now im hoping to gather some suggestions from anyone on what i can do to fix the car.
It drove back fine after i tightened the alt up electrical tap and zip tied the omp line back together but this vibration it has is killer. And the frame rails have been jacked up.
The seller said it was dyno tuned at 230whp. Sounded good but now reading thro the sellers posts I'm worried it was upgraded and then he removed parts to sell but now i have no idea of what was on it and what was taken off and how this would affect the cars tune?? He left a note stating a boost issue?? Boost controller not working keep an eye it spikes into dangerous levels is what he said in the note.
Right from when i started this car up i knew it had an issue and since the seller wasn't there his gf was i could not haggle with her so i took the chance and bought the car
The car started up fine then when it started to idle at like 1200 i was displeased but whatev no biggy. As soon as i reved it up it has this mad vibration throughout the car. In neutral or in gear from idle to like 3500 if not higher. I have noticed also the exhaust has minimal hangers and shakes and have thought this could be the problem but am worried it could be engine or transmission problem.
Also the floor board at the drivers and passengers seats are jacked up to **** from under the car. Obviously at some point in the cars life some loser decided the best way to jack the car up was the frame rails and obviously figured that was the easiest way and disregarded the damed he was doing to cars floor and frame rails. I need to get an out of province inspection on this car in Alberta and am hoping this will not affect it structurally at all or if it would. I was planning on using a 2x4 and a sledge from the inside with the seats out.

WOW!! You really bought yourself a piece of work there didn't ya?! You didn't talk to the PO directly and instead conducted the transaction with his GF? :o Did you notice the frame rail damage before buying the car or take it out for a test drive before forking over your (presumably) hard earned cash? I'm amazed and shocked that the PO left a note warning you about "boost issues" !?!
What's done is done I guess. First thing first is sorting out the out of province inspection. Doesn't make sense pouring time and energy behind the car unless it can actually pass the inspection.
BTW, did you buy this car for a DD or is a project/track car?

I was already out there so i took the chance buying the car. It was going to be a weekend car and if i decide to get into autocross it would be ready for that as well. Don't know if that would ever happen but maybe. I will probably try and get that OOP this week or at least take it to the local shop an see what they say as well before i go for the OOP

take pics of the underside (frame rails) that you are mentioning and post them.
We got some "Internet mechanics" here that can give you their opinion..heh,heh.
That wasn't meant as an offense to anyone..guys have seen what the jackstands can do to the subframe.

Vibration when revving is likely the engine out of balance.
Damaged or incorrect counterbalance(s), bad flywheel, bad clutch, and blown rotor are all suspects.
The car came with an advertised horsepower, and comes with "issues".. Not to mention sending your GF to make the deal on the car.. Sounds like an amateur abandoning a project due to a KNOWN problem that you will have to discover on your own.

Just what i wanted to hear. If said engine was off balanced how would i go about diagnosing that?? Apparently from the original owners threads he had the front cover off??
I have no faith in people anymore why the **** cant someone be honest for once.
Im already pissed off cause some idiot hit my subaru in a parking lot and insurance is ******* me around and it could get written off.
Well first step is to snap some pics of the frame rails and i have a mechanic that will do the oop for me after he see's the car.
******* guy said only problem was the bloody sunroof and now it has a **** load of electrical **** not working and i just got a call saying the hazards are on and the car has been locked for three days wtf

The frame rails are not as bad as i thought they were but the floorboards are fairly jacked up
Roughly an inch ide say.
The vibration isnt so much at idle as it is while reving and seems to get better at 3500 or so i took a video but its more of a noise and feeling than something you could see i will have to upload to you tube for that but it wont show you much
Also i am fairly sure that the front pulley is about an 1/8" off easier for me to see when engine is off but i took a pic anyways while it was running

Yes indeed. How should i go about seeing if the engine is balanced or not. before i try the replace everything theory if indeed it is out of balance what parts can i expect to keep from the engine and what will be trash
Spent good money on it and am hoping i dont have to pull the engine as i have no garage or specialty tools for rebuild but if i have to i guarantee it will be ready for springtime.
When i drove it back from bc it boosted strong (12ish psi) now only hits like 7 or 8. When it was going tho it definitely felt faster than my sti.
Glad to have a tii but at same time pissed. My sti is a possible write off too so these insurance ppl are just so stressful and the guy that hit me is dodging them so i have to wait till they sort it out with him before any repairs or adjusters come out to decide what happens?

If the front cover was off, perhaps the front Torrington bearing dropped out of position.
Have someone hold your clutch pedal down, and then gently use a prybar to pull the front pulley ahead, and push it back with your hand. If you can feel excessive play, or no play at all, you might look at removing the front cover to inspect what is going on inside there.
I think you need the clutch down, someone else might be able to refresh my memory. Try it with the pedal up too and see the difference.
I think I used to hold the clutch down and take the play out of the front by pushing the shaft back and then doing the front cover work.. it's been a while now..
