Anyone in the Kitchener, Cambridge or Guelph Area good with Carbs?
Hi Guys:
I have a 1984 RX-7 which has been in storage for 12+ years before I got it,
and 2 more years since I've had it. We got it for my daughter, but she has
no ambition to learn to drive a stick.
After starting it a couple months ago, the car won't idle. We found out
that the tank had a bunch of crap in it (previous owner obviously didn't
drain the tank). The tank was pulled and professionally cleaned, the
fuel pump was replaced (Carter) and all the filters replaced.
After all that, the car still won't idle. Pulling the choke out slightly will keep
the car running at about 1200 rpm. We looked for broken vacuum lines
but all looks good. I've come to the conclusion that the idle circuit must
be plugged.
Anyone know anyone reputable in the K-W, Cambridge or Guelph area
who knows this carb? Doesn't have to be a business, just some good
references
Thanks, Tedd

look up "sterling carbs" somewhere on this site or online. then send your factory nikki carb to him to have it cleaned and modified.
or buy my rx7 and get a weber 48ida downdraft carb with the package. lol

Honestly, just work on it yourself. It isn't that had. Get a rebuild kit from a parts store (yes they should still have them), take it apart and let it soak in carb cleaner for a few days. Then just put it back together. Should work fantastic then.

Hey I'm back from the dead lol, though nobody missed me likely...
Anyway, I've rebuilt a couple of these carbs, and they can be intimidating. But anybody that knows how to turn a wrench can rebuild one. As long as you take it slow, keeping track of all your parts and where they go, you should be able to do it yourself for the cost of a rebuild kit. It helps to keep a photo record of how things go together as well, and you can also use a small fishing tackle box to keep track of all the small parts like springs, check ***** and jets.
If you do decide to take on the task, and end up loosing any parts or need replacements, I have a couple carbs here that are all in parts, but not enough parts to build one complete carb, as far as I know. Hey, I might have to go have a look now lol. Let me know if you need anything.

One of the list members gave me the name of a guy in Guelph, so I'm
going to talk to him this afternoon.
The only problem with the car is that it won't idle. I'm hoping that
someone who know the carb can just tackle this problem. It has
excellent mid and WOT power. It will also run if the choke is just
slightly pulled out (about 1200 rpm).
I would normally do this myself as well (rebuild), but I'm kind
of in a rush, as I've sold the car and need to get it running.
I would have kept the car, but I can't sit in it, as my head hits
the roof. Even with the sunroof open I have to **** my head
to the right! That's with the seat all the back and down.
Thanks for all the input guys, Tedd

not taking any orders, as of Dec 31, 2010. Too busy?
I sure wish there was a company that sold rebuilt carbs

I understand Stirling just has too big of a backlog of work to do and customers are getting frustrated about it . Future work may be done by waiting list and when he has one ready , next in line gets it. What Ive read on forum anyway.
