I second the opinion on "NOT" using RA seals. I "saw" what they did to a set of housings, not pretty, especially since they can be the most costly part of a rebuild.

I wasnt trying to start another war man. But Adam has told numerous people including myself to my face he would not do a rebuild if stock 2mm seals were used. If that has changed all the better

haha..........no worries TD07. i took no offence to it. Adam built my buddies 20b with stock 2mm seals. i opted to go with Adams seals in a 2mm.

Cool

While I don't agree with any of the aftermarket seal brands ie)RA, Adam's, Hurley etc etc etc....... The decision to go 2mm was a wise one. I think alot more people are coming around to the idea that 3mm was, is and always has been a gimmick and a sham. Look to Japan, does RE use 3mm? How about Revolution? Hmmm but what do they know? LOL ah well.

I think the question is, Does Mazda use 3mm seals?

My rotary melon is a little dusty these days, but if I recall, they ditched 3mm around 1985.

u need to get some heat goin in your garage. and not some dumpy little space heater. the last thing u need is to snap every plastic connector on your harness and plastic nipples for the vac rack. they are brittle enough to work on in the summer when it is hot.
an air compressor would be nice to have aswell. especially for the bolts on the bell housing.

did u drain the fluids (oil & coolant) oil from the pan and coolant from the rad and 14mm bolt on the middle iron (driverside)
have u torn any of it down yet. start by taking out the intake, intercooler, ducting, alternator, air pump, battery/tray.cross memeber, ast.etc. make sure to leave the powersteering lines, and ac lines hooked up (as we dont need to disconnect them).
leave the rad and fans in aswell

u can also disconnect your power fc and the rest of the engine harness from inside the car and pop the rubber grommet out from the fire wall and feed the harness into the engine bay. its easier if u loosen off the bolts for the wiper motor 2 do this.

we gotta figure out if we are pulling the motor with tranny or what we are doing here. maybe some of the backyard mechanics can chime in here with what works best. i have only ever dropped the tranny out of an fd prior to pulling the engine. that of course is having the luxury of a hoist

thanks cory for all the info, I haven't taken any the fluids out yet, i have taken out the intercooler, and piping. The only problem i have with the garage, it is 2 car, but the car barely fits, i may have to try to move it so its length wise, maybe give us more room. If any one is up for it maybe Sunday or later sat, chime on in, and tell me whats a good time for you guys. Also if ya have any large heaters, that would be much appreciated!

we were a couple tools shy of getting the motor out, i also noticed a few key differences between usdm cars and jdm, mostly just nut and bolt sizes changed but the clutch is a little different from what i remember, there was no snap ring. so i'm not sure how to get that out. other then that all thats left is to unbolt the tranny, and pulling the harness through the firwall. beautiful car though.

I ended up having to do a vehicle recovery. A buddy put his car into the ditch. What are friends for. In the process, I also required a recovery.

Kudos to the chap in the old Landcruiser for pulling my 2 ton *** out of the brush.
