Hi!
Yeah, I figured it out. It wasn't a broken cable at all. The little metal ball which stays within the locking mechanism actually came out. As soon as I was able to open the hood, I reinserted the metal ball and everything is good.
The opening of the hood took me 30min. It takes a lot of patience the first time you attempt this because you have no clear sight of how the mechanism works.
So, the coat hanger trick works like a charm.
Take a wired coat hanger, straighten out and on the tip bend about 1/2 an inch completely 90 degrees. So you have a little hook type thing.
If you can see where the cable sits on the mechanism, you can insert the coat hanger tip in the same spot with the bended part sticking up. If the cable is still in the way, you have to sneak it behind it. The release latch is literally 1/2 an inch where the cable normally sits.
It's hard to describe. But once you have the little bended part within that region, and its sticking up, you can pull the coat hanger towards you, and the hood will pop.
Like I said, it took me 30mins of dicking around with it attempting to see where the latch sits.
Now I can pop the hood open in about 2-3min. Easy now where you know the latch sits.
I even saved the coat hanger if the little metal ball attempts to fall out of its holding place again.
If you're still having trouble, you can come up and I'll open it for you.

Hey Alex,
Sorry I couldn't check the forum earlier. I was busy battling the FD for its fuel filter. I process which took 4hrs! God damn fuel filter!
I'll give you a call tomorrow. And I'll take a pic of where you have to put it as well. I meant to do that yesterday, but I assumed the fuel filter would take me max 1-2hrs. Assumption is the worse thing one can do with an FD.
I'll try to reach you late morning.

Cool!
Definitely a cold one for Peter.
It freakin poured like crazy during the whole fuel filter ordeal. Was not a happy camper. Alas, it's been done.
The really bad news is there's a small leak on the passenger side driveshaft seal off the diff. It's a small leak, but something that has to be dealt with before doing any extended driving.
As they say, when it rains it pours!

Of course it's not that hard. Now that you know how to do it! lol
It's a bit tough when you don't know exactly where to start or whereabouts you can attack the lock.
Alas, after about an hour of trying, I know exactly where to pull.
