Which Alarm to buy?

Ok, other than a big black guy named Ben, what car alarm do you guys use, recommend, not like?

I've decided that living in this goddamn city is going to require an upgraded alarm, so I am going to get rid of the one I have and upgrade. I'm not really interested in the paging alarms, but I haven't ruled them out either. I don't need an automatic car starter, and since I don't have power locks, the door unlock feature really isn't necessary. I just need a good alarm.

What do you guys think I should get?

Funny story:
I myself have spotted few attempts by people trying to get into my car (or they don't know what it is and they want to know)... one late sat. night i was getting dropped off by few friends right in front of my house . I ran after him and brought him back asked him few questions as to what he was doing on my property. While i was doing that he was acting all hardcore and kept putin' his hands in his pockets like he wanted to stab me or something. I was thinking of calling the cops but my drunk friend decided it would be funny to hit him with a garbage bin and punch him few times. was not a pretty site. Haven't seen him around after that.

I'm also in Vancouver, I know exactly how you feel.
Im upgrading mine to G5. http://www.clifford.com/main.asp
They make some of the best products in car security.

I don't need a remote start as mine is manual tranmission. I'm going with Intelliguard 750 but with a custome install so only i will know where the brain is located.

from the G5 - ACCESSORIES http://www.clifford.com/g5/access/default.asp

i'm thinkin' of getting Smartwindows, Proximity Sensor, Wireless Immobilizer and Smart Self-Powered Siren.

hope this puts ur mind at ease... pm me if you need anything...

ps. if you like dogs...get one...Japanese Samurai swords are cool and if you want to get real hardcore... get urself a nice light weight pistol... ... make sure you don't hit any main organs...hahah..

look for a system that uses an air horn...you can then upgrade to an industrial air horn (they aren't very expensive), they can be extremely loud.

i'm sure you could set something up that uses a normal horn/siren for light disturbances, then if the door is breached or something off goes the air horn and scares the **** out of everyone within a mile.

you can get air horns that run on a small 12V motor for your car at part source, fairly cheap too

Yeah, I've had the car 9 years with no issues. I move to Vancouver, and within a month someone tries to steal it.

At least I have a garage to put it in at home, but I'm more concerned about when I have to park it at a mall or work.

Thanks for the website, I'll scope it out!

also check out revscene.net and bcrx7.com ... once you know the city... you'll know how to avoid bad areas of this city... I love the city and the night life here but i hate the people and their mentality here.

Thanks!
I 'm already on bcrx7 (Nick86). I'm finding out quickly just where I should and shouldn't park.

Should Park: In my Garage.
Shouldn't Park: Anywhere else.

Don't get me started. Everyday I am amazed at the general mentality out here, and it is something that I can't see myself ever getting used to.

Regarding an alarm, I'd be more inclined to get a simple alarm and get it installed by someone reputable. (i.e. Don't go to Visions or some other electronics retailer where the alarm installer works part time after high school lets out)

I'm not in favour of most of the bells and whistles on car alarms. Paging for instance seems like it'd be pretty ineffective. I'd suggest you're better off getting an alarm that is loud as hell and not prone to false alarms. (How often have you heard a car alarm go off after a garbage truck rumbles by? I bet the neighbours don't come running to see if someone's breaking into that car)

I think it's a good idea to get a siren mounted inside the car as well. I had that in my old car, and it was practically unbearable when it went off.

I'm assuming that you are referring to the remote start feature - right? If not, then what?

I have a friend who had a pager alarm on his BMW. It went off and he ran out to the car - only to get beat up by the 3 guys trying to steal it.

I'm with ShaunO - I want a good quality alarm with no remote start, no keyless entry and no paging.

I never leave the car in any gear because of the remote start feat.

i think i mentioned this before, have a system shut of switch, where your whole elceltrical system is wired up too, that has a mother of a switch on it, then when you leave you turn it off, cause then your whole ignition system is hooked up to it and they would not be able to even boost it, or even have the doem light come on, thats what i would personally do with a car alram (have it so the alarm gets power) then you should be safe from people being able to steal your car, does not do anyhtin to people that are trying to steal it though. i've often had thoughts of installing James bond type stuff, like an "Electricly chraged door handle" or something of the sort, if you need any ideas go the military and their "mart" truck, it also had pepper sray come out of from above the windows, watch the theif get . only thing is the stupid government says you can't do that unless you have warning or something of the sort if i remember, wait now that i starting to think i believe it is completely illegal not like that would stop me, cause trying to steal my car is also illegal so srcew them!!!!!

**Edit** Post 100's (yes 100's not the #100's post)

if anyone steals my car, I don't think I have to worry... as soon as he finds them, they'll wish they weren't born!
