ON 2012 Autoslalom (Auto-X) Schedule - ON Region

With spring around the corner and a mild winter, many people are getting their cars ready for another season of autocross. Below is a listing of local events happening throughout the 2012 year. In addition to the local and provincial events, we also have the Canadian Autoslalom Championship being held this year in Barrie.

What is auto-x? Just check out the videos below for a quick overview:

http://youtu.be/Af2zJAOAqWQ
http://youtu.be/wgD7ZufWOrU
http://youtu.be/_LyqdhSFBpc
http://youtu.be/n6yNejk7MwI

I’ll keep this list updated as dates become available and they change up.

For those of you who are new and want to try it out, just come out to an event. Watch or ask to go for a ridealong. It's the cheapest form of motorsports out there, with the cost being less than a speeding ticket, or even a parking ticket in some cases. If you really want to be involved, CASC-OR/SPDA puts on an amazing auto-x driving school near the end of April. The school is geared towards all driving skills. This school sells out every year. Registration opens during the CASC-OR open house at CSC Racing in Newmarket on April 1, 2012.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Here is a list of local clubs/series

CASC-OR Mobil 1 Championship Series.
Also known as the “provincials”, this is the top series in the area. Each event is put on be a different hosting car club. It's a great way to visit different clubs and drivers from all around Ontario.

BMWCCT – BMW Car Club of Canada - Trillium Chapter
Events are held at the Powerade Centre in Brampton, as well as two events at Mosport Drivers Development Track. You may run one event as a non-member, but if you plan on running more than one event with BMWCCT, you should invest in a membership.

HADA – Honda Acura Drivers Association
HADA has scaled back their autoslalom events, but will be holding two advanced driving development days as well as one round of the provincials.

MCO – Motorsports Club of Ottawa
MCO is a large club in Ottawa that host various track days, driving schools, ice racing and solo events. MCO Solo II events are so popular that they have been forced to only have online registrations which sell out quickly. Events take place in Kanata at the Scotiabank Place, which is a massive lot.

OMSC – Oshawa Motor Sports Club
OMSC is a smaller club that host various lapping days and a round of the provincials at the Shannonville skidpad.

PCA - Porsche Club of America - Upper Canada Region
The autoslaloms take place at the Toronto Star Facility in Woodbridge (1 Century Place, Woodbridge, ON. L4L 8R2). Cost is $30/driver; however you must register online and you must be a member. The deadline is Thursday before the event.

PITL – Push it to the Limit
This series is put on by the Mazda Sports Car Club. Events take place at the Bramalea Go Station in Brampton. It’s a small lot, and a ton of fun. Expect a very tight and technical course.

PMSC – Peterbrough Motor Sports Club
PMSC is also a smaller club that host various lapping days and events, as well as a provincial event at Kawartha Downs Speedway.

SPDA - Subaru Performance Drivers Association
SPDA hosts the annual auto-x driving school, as well as one of the National days along with TLMC.

St. LAC – St. Lawrence Automobile Club
St. LAC events are for those that are in the Kingston/Belleville area. Their auto-x venue switches between the Picton Airfield (yes…an airport) and Shannonville Motorsports Park. I always hear great things about the events held by these guys.

TLMC – Twin Lakes Motor Club
TLMC has been around for over half a century now. They have been around for a while, and they know how to put on a great show. Their events are held at the Molson Center in Barrie. This lot is one of the largest open lots of any Solo II series. Course designs flow well, and getting runs is easy. This is also the club who is hosting the Nationals this year.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Each series has its own list of car classification and rules. If you are interested in a series, visit their website or ask questions here. Autocross is cheap way to have a blast. There is no excessive wear on the car. You arrive arrive and drive (granted your car is in working condition and full of oil). It’s only as serious as you want it to be.

Great Post! the TLMC events are a lot of fun, and they are one of the few that have the space to design some higher speed courses. Not to mention the club camaraderie is great, and there's a pretty solid competitive spirit. you'll definitely have a great time at one of our events!

Just a quick correction to the CASC-OR May 27th event
Sunday, May 27 - CASC/St. LAC - Picton Airport

And a reminder to all that the CASC-OR open house is coming up soon on April 1st at CSC Racing out in Newmarket. I do believe that there will be 10% off all helmets during the open house as well.

Unfortunately, SPDA will not be hosting an event at PIcton, ON, but we will see if we can do something else for the students of the autoslalom school.

The course at Delaware is great for high horsepower cars. So much fun. First autocross I have ever been to that used 3rd gear!

Just wondering what the rules are ( ie safety equipment needed etc). I'm looking at bringing 3 cars out this year for a first run. My 88 vert, girlfriends celica and I think my dad wants to go with his 87 vw cabrio.

I would love to get the down low on anything I would need to know.

You need a helmet, basically. Beyond that the car must be fundamentally safe. As in no battery held in by bungee cords, nothing dripping, no hockey puck engine mounts, etc.

CASC-OR no longer has the June 10th event at Shannonville, so it is down to six events for the season. The turnout at Mosport was amazing with a fast paced course that was enjoyed by all. Finally, I leave you with one image, courtesy of the driver of the red RX-8 in the CASC-OR series and the question of what's stopping you from coming out
