1991 S5 RX-7 slow project

So after almost a year refraining from buying another FC (winter helped), I finally gave in about a month ago and sold the Audi and picked up the car pictured below. Went from FC to BMW 328is to Audi A4 1.8T, back to an FC! Anyway, don't regret the move at all as I was able to make a good bit of change and the feeling of exclusiveness on the road is absolutely worth it. I have since enjoyed 8,000kms in the month I've owned it, bringing the total up to 177,000kms. I have gone through this cycle of trying to replace an FC about 6 or 7 times in the past now, and I guess I'm just drawn to the raw character of the car. Anyway, here are some pics!

Haven't really done much, bought an HKS filter, some header, Sylvannia Silverstars (really bright **** for non-hid lights!), an air breather, and those enkeis that it came with. I've got 5L of Royal Purple 5W40, Royal Purple Coolant, and 4L of 50W90 Lucas Transmission/Differential Fluid to change but am waiting to replace my OMP (once it arrives) and intend on steam cleaning the engine itself. Also picked up a set of Fuzion ZR1 205-50-15s.

I have lots of plans for the car but this year I want to focus on making it a good car to begin with so:
-convert power to manual rack
-vinyl wrap the car in a dark grey metallic colour (I've seen a Ferrari 599 in this colour and love it!)
-remove the sound deadening, cut away the spare tire well and make it "flat"
-reinforce the rockers and frame
-take care of any rust issues underneath the car

Man it feels good to be back in one of these, the Germans were a little to "soft" for my liking anyway. Great DDs though!

I don't know where I keep finding them but I do, it's a sign! This is not Aspect's car but it is almost 100% identical apart from headlights and rims lol.

Where the heck did you go to drive 8000 kms in a month...

I see you cant stay away for long...Rotaries are a love hate relationship.

White is one of the nicest colours for an FC. Sorry I am biased to the Crystal White on the AE`s..

I'd just decide to drive until I'd have to fill up... at random times in the middle of the night when the roads are free of traffic.

Man it feels soo nice to drive a good running car! Cleaned up the engine bay area (especially underneath the car). Found where my power steering leak was coming from so hopefully have the manual rack in soon. Clutch is going so that'll be next, anyone with that special tool I can borrow in a couple weeks?

Looks like there is a lot of "maintenance" work I need/want to do before any modding. I have replaced the battery terminals, changed smaller worn out things like wipers and various pumps and filters, antenna mast, and FAILED miserably at trying to sort out my windshield trim problem.

Onto that last item, I simply wanted to use the stock upper rubber trim for the windshield since the painters used some generic one without a cutout for the side window trim and having them stick up bothered me so I went at it and removed the generic trim/moulding... there was an absurd amount of silicone underneath it and as much as I tried to remove all of it I couldn't but went ahead with putting the oem piece in, fitment reminds me of the rocky mountains but smoothened out... not good.

Anyone have good experience with any shops or company that can perhaps tackle this simple issue with a more professional fit/finish. I will pay a member if he/she is capable of restoring the windshield area to a more presentable stock/oem look. Thanks!

Finally have a sound system (sort of) but if my headlights go up, the music goes off. hmmph.

i could be talking out my ***, its been known to happen, but how many Km's are on that engine an has it run synthetic its whole life?

it took exactly one oil change worth of royal purple to completely free my engine of all the carbon that was holding the coolant and oil in. inside a week i was guzzling coolant and burning oil.

do a search on royal purple an synthetic oil in old rotaries before you pour that into a used engine.

How bad is it to NOT have the stock brake ducts? I may have to rig something up because the stock location is kind hard to re&re...

BIG problem, I have purchased an OMP stateside so of course shipping would be involved. The item was shipped to my old address in Barrie when I live in Brampton. The tracking number provided says that the item has not been recieved at the adress yet so I was wondering if there is a way to have it re-directed to my current adress? I have spoken to the shipper about this as well and awaiting some response.

Worst comes to worst if someone lives in Barrie and is coming down to Toronto sometime, if they could pick this up at my old adress?

No more check engine light! AWWWW YEAH!

Anyway, since I had to remove the airpump to replace my OMP, I figured i'd just leave it off and throw on the dual alt pulley I had laying around from 2 RX-7's ago... Maybe it's just me but it feels more "revvy". Just to make sure the CEL was cured, went for a blast of a drive for a good hour, no light (Seen a deadly looking GTR on the highway, flat black, cf wing, lip kit or mild bodykit and some sort of 20" multispoke wheels, maybe enkei)! Should be able to make it to the swap meet and whatever comes up as I can drive the distance now. Happy Rotoring!

Still waiting on the clutch -_-"

It's nothing fancy but pics are always good.

Also got 10th AE wheels for it and it sure looks good white on white, pics another time.

Tragedy strikes >=/

Short story shorter: Last night I went out with friends. I was on the 401 middle lane just after the Dixon Rd./Martin Grove exit and out of nowhere (didn't see it coming either, was pretty ugly weather), a tractor trailer turns into my lane and JUST clipped me with his front tire!!! He pulls back to his lane as I try to get into the next lane before I have all 6 of his wheels running over me. Lost control for a split second and ended up hitting the car in front of me. Truck driver just sped up and kept going, I took the next exit to check the car and talk to the corolla driver in front of me but he/she just passed me like nothing happened o.O. I was expecting substantial bodywork to be done to my car but to my surprise, only my door was damaged including a mirror (fender has paint chipped off at where it meets the door, and front bump passenger side has a whole lot of paint missing from kissing that corolla's rearend). Still went off to try the rest of the night but when I got home, I was restless... was out in the garage since 5:45ish assessing the damage and got the door off just moments ago.

On the upside, I have an excuse to repaint the car.

I'll have more later when my friend wakes up.

No idea, all I remembering was slamming on my brakes after hitting the corolla.

New door is on, just need some door rods, a mirror and weather stripping. Going to be re&re-ing the front bumper to see if I can bend the impact bar back so my headlight can move.

I was able to salvage my mirror so that's off the list. However, car doesn't start now lol. I'm guessing the dome light being on all day due to not having a driver side door killed it. Hopefully it'll take jump start in the morning but even with the charger on for 3 hours... nothing.

Anyway, here are pics from yesterday.

Removed the front bumper today and the front end has frame damage =(. Hood doesn't close properly and the headlight won't go down because everything's been pushed back too far. I'll be looking for an S4 shell to swap everything over later this year...

I was able to pull the front end forward so the hood would clear, which is dose but that also revealed it was also bent a little. Also have to put a washer or 2 between the bolt and re-bar support for the headlights to clear. "Cheap" fix but I wasn't ready to spend a good thousand or so to have the front pulled professionally. Probably will just ride the car out for 2 years once e-test expires and do a chassis swap.
