^ your right, we've got many other companies out there. I have even touched any of those. Having said that I got a tiny review.

Future Shop in Cambridge has one setup for display. It is running some kind of demo video that needs a password to unlock it. The rep did unlock it so I could actually use the phone.

The keyboard is as sweet as all the demos show. The word predition, the guestures to erase words, change to symbols were all perfect.

The browser is pretty good, and by default flash and force to full desktop sites are NOT enabled. I like the reader mode, and the quick option to change the font size. So simple and very useful.

Over all it felt great in the hand, the UI was quick, and fluid. The screen is big and effing amazing to look at.

Some how I spent 45 minutes playing with it and I would have spent longer had my wife not called to tell me to get home LoL.

I'm even more excited, I can't wait till Tuesday!!

never had an iphone, i dislike apple in general because of their overpriced simple looking and ugly products. i feel like i'd be paying 500$ for the name and 100$ for the parts, the same feeling you would get from buying a aston martin over a nissan GTR.
in terms of the iphones, i hate the IOS because of the lack of customizations available and the extremely short battery life.
you're wrong about hitting the nail on the head with people getting bored with iphones as the number 1 reason. i'd say it's the more fact that the android OS has been getting better and better with more phones running it which has similar or better specs as the iphone but selling for cheaper. of course these are just some main reasons, lets not forget others such as low battery life and the inability to change your battery, small screen compared to competitors, file/media transfer being restricted to using itunes, connector cables being apple specific and not universal usb/micro usb, and so many more reasons why iphones would be sub-par to competitors.
oh, lets not forget, they don't support flash :P

i'm a very light phone user, so i prefer stuff like styling and battery life more than the capabilities of the phone, but yes thats why i have a sony xperia arc running android, it looks nice, its fast and easily customizable, kinda reminds you of the rx7 doesn't it

And yes, the software is just as important as the hardware. I agree with this a lot.

Knowing crack berry from past experience, their software might be the next best thing since sliced bread, but I know the hardware will not keep up with it. Or vice versa.
I'm not the only 1 feeling this. The general public are well aware of it too. As the stock keeps falling like a rock.

I see a variety of things happening to crack berry. Longevity is not 1 of them. They will eventually become as irrelevant as Nokia. Remember those guys?? They were the company to have when this whole mobile phone business came to pass.

The future lyes with either apple or google. Everyone else is just along for the ride.

Woa!! Wait.. lets not drag cars into this.. we're talking about smartphones.

You can honestly say you would take the GT-R over the Aston Martin?? Seriously???
I think we're going to get no where if that's how you compare things.

*shakes his head...* The shame....

The Vanquish over say an F40????

Yes, it was a bad comparison. It's good to see you've owned up to it. lol

Now, back to the topic at hand.

Double_J, did you have to leave a deposit so you can have the first one?? Or will you need to stand in a lineup on that day?

I have two pre orders in right now. One through future shop, and another through rogers. They were a 40-50 dollar deposit that is refundable. I had got two originally to cover my *** and make sure I got it ASAP but now my wife wants a Z10 as well.

Rogers actually has a pretty decent deal right now. They call it the white hot winter event. Basically it allows you to get up to $100 off. That is pretty unheard of for a new phone.

early sales are going strong in UK, Canada will be next . Stock up almost 2$ today to 14.99 .... its going to $20 before long . Great strategy on building the steam outside the US first so the BB train gets moving strong while the american analysts continue to flip flop on the technology and brand strength .

again , this is going to be the second early opportunity for some people to make a lot of money on BB stock . Last one was in 1996.

I don't want to say much simply because I've had the RIM/BlackBerry discussion offline so many times in the last few months leading up to the BB10 launch.

But I do find it curious those who say the BB has a poor interface. Exactly what would you change? The BB interface hasn't changed much since the original two way pager, and for us long time BB users (I've been using since 1999/2000) that is VERY important. The device becomes an extension of your brain, hands and muscle memory trained to access every function. And combine that with the fact the menus have always been intelligent and highlight what you want to select next 99% of the time, it's a VERY efficient device to use. How do those other phones handle thousands of emails per day over multiple accounts, complex task lists, multiple calendars, etc.? Not well in my experience setting up customer's Android and iOS devices.

Now BB10 revamps the entire experience, nothing in common with previous BBs. This is both good and bad. Great for consumers, but honestly a little disappointing for us long time BB users. However, overall great for the company and the experience will be refined over time. Remember, it took many years to refine the old BB OS (though near the end it was getting pretty crusty).

And yes I'm a shareholder.

I picked up two z10's and they are simply stunning. The browser is the fastest mobile browser I have ever seen, and at times it is actually quicker than my i7 computer. I attribute this speed difference because when on LTE I can almost triple the upload.

Coming from an iphone, and many years of BB qwerty Keyboard I am blown away by the touch keyboard on the z10. It is almost scary at how in a short time it can predict what you want to say. You only swipe up the words, and never really type any more.

The time shift camera has already proved to be useful at our house. We have two young boys and a 4month old. Getting the right picture is much easier now that you can rewind time and actually get them with their eyes open.

And you were right. There is nothing used from the old operating software. But for those die hard BB users I think the Q10 will be the model of choice. The z10 is a great phone for those looking to have a full media, and comunication experience. The screen out performs the retina display, and the Q10 will be the go to choice for anyone who wants the best physical KB. I am impressed with the fact the keys are 30% larger than the 9900. That phone was simply a dream to type on.

I just hope that by the time the Q10 is available (I'm going back to QWERTY...using a Storm 9350 right now which I like but without SurePress, which of course isn't on the Z10, I don't want a touchscreen phone) the missing features will be back. For example, notification profiles are very limited in BB10 compared to the BBOS which is almost a show stopper for me. BB Remember is not a substitute for Tasks/Memos, no auto on/off, and it's unclear whether I can have a mailbox that doesn't show in the Hub (and of course I can't make that box have no notification).
Interesting, all the features I've just mentioned were available in my first BlackBerry, a 957.

Oh, it's not a lack of spare BlackBerrys. I have a stack of 9900s/9930s. Plus many BB4, BB5, BB6 and BB7/7.1 devices hanging around. Including some much older devices. My original 957 running I think 2.something still works great and was active on a network until 2008 (I was using it daily).

I'm going to take a wildass guess and say "the same", since speedtest is measuring network speeds, not browser responsiveness, and an iPhone 5 is an LTE device, so same location, same time, same provider, the speeds will likely be the same, or average out so over a few tests. Your speed is HSPA theoretical top end, and about 1/3 LTE theoretical, although it likely is 150Mbs LTE, since rarely does the network performance come close to matching the theoretical - which is also why the network, rather than the phone has more to do with data-related performance like browsers.

No, I don't have an iPhone. And I refuse to be a fanboi for a product I keep around for a couple years or so, then upgrade - meaning toss. My RX-7 I've had for nearly 15 years - that I'm a fan of

^ that would be a very accurate guess except one thing. iphone does not support flash and that is a flash website. Of course you could always pay and get "an app" to do what other companies give you for free.

Good guess though, it was a trick question.

No, not really. My android phone also had me download a small, app to run Speedtest.net. And it was free. So no, it wasn't a trick. Flash is irrelevant for this test - and more and more so for the web generally. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

Phones can perform different even if they are sitting beside each other on the same network. It depends how they handle data. Just an FYI.

No flash support has always been a huge problem with mobile browsing. Most people just gave up and learned to not use/need it, some sites offered mobile options with no flash too. Having flash allows you to view the entirety of the internet without limitations. Countless times I cant do something on my phone because the browser doesn't support something I'm trying to do or see.

Anyway, I'm waiting for the keyboard version (Q10).

I say trick because my question started out being "What sort of broswer speeds do you think a crApple gets from speedtest.net ". Knowing full well ios does not support flash.

I know some android phones can do full websites, and some also support flash, although I heard they are pulling support for it.

As Marco mentioned, many apps were created to be a work around for sites that have flash. Then people will always make an argument that flash is dead, no sites use flash, and HTML is the future.

Interestingly though because Blackberry 10 is almost the most compliant html 5 browser as well. It literally crushes safari, and I believe any CURRENT available browser. It even beats many desktop browsers too.

Yes, this thread has an interesting tone.

On the other hand I do personally have a Z10 which I bought February 5th at 9am because I have been a loyal blackberry follower for a while now(not as long as Aaron).

I can say that this phone has definitely increased my productivity and the overall flow of the operating system is very different from others. It has its flaws like every other operating system, but overall its pretty good.
