Well, same story, different month. Making slow progress, just started test fitting the new donor panel though!

I have drove it around a bit like this, but its so ******* loud, has no plates, and the door kinda doesn't have a latch.

And also, this week I tracked down and bought my dream wheels! I've been lusting after these wheels for years, top of my list of wanted wheels. I'm pretty ecstatic. lol.

So....

Time for the bi-annual update to keep myself on track. lol.

Cut the quarter panel off a shell a friend was parting out last year. Noticed that the paint was cracking and the spot welds had been re-welded, upon removal of the donor panel, discovered that that panel had been replaced before... Figured that being the panel was straight, it should all still work. Got it home, started sanding on the new panel, only to find that there was over an inch of bondo on it, and the seam were they welded the new part on was all rusted. FML. This was worse then the panel I cut off the TII originally, clearly this wasnt going to work.

So after watching the classifieds, and finding nothing for a clean donor panel, I decided the most logical thing was to cut up my other FC shell I had at the time and take the quarter off that. That car had rusted through floorboards, so that was the only way I could justify hacking it up. So to make the Turbo II live again, this car died:

A few times a month all last winter I'd get time to work on it, cutting the donor panel to size, and going over other small things on the car.

But considering my work schedule, and life in general I don't get around to working on this much now. I've been focused on getting my career going as rapidly as possible, and recently bought a house which has taken up most of my time. Kind of crazy how fast life changes.

Drove it from my parents place to my house when I moved last spring, an hour drive with no quarter panel, and it took it great! No issues whatsoever, even after sitting for a year. But I recently started it to let it run a couple weeks ago, and it smoked out the garage, so I'm pretty sure the turbo is blown, or the motor. Meh, whatever, gives me more of a reason to upgrade

But I have worked on this car recently! Just installed DTSS eliminators and cleaned the hubs up last month:

Then the distractions started, and not too long ago I got this:

And this has taken center stage of my attention lol. Any free time goes into the FD right now haha.
And if that's not bad enough, I picked this up last week:

Planning on setting the M3 up for tracking in the coming months, and would really like to trickle some money into the FD soon also.

But I'm not going to be one of those guys that gives up and sells out on a project halfway through. If I have to sell any car, the FC is the last one to go. It just has too much sentimental value to me. The FD is nice, but I'll always be an FC guy at heart

As of right now, the progress on this is at a pause. But it will be finished. Maybe not this year or next, but its nice knowing that when I'm ready to go back to this, it will be there waiting, exactly where I left off. And heres how it looks as of today, doing what it does best, holding jackstands down
