My 91 FC3S RHD LS1 Build
#76
Oh here is a preview of how we are going to go through the firewall....
they mount to holes we are drilling on the firewall and lines from the inside will go to the pedal assembly and the lines on the engine bay will go the brakes, clutch etc.

nice build... i never understood why ppl do them tho.... ya you can make alot of power and the power to weight is pretty sick but..... why take the heart of a 7 out and put in a shitty vette motor?? i think its cool and all i just never understood it....
#78
Shitty Vette motor? you are a ******* clown. LS motors are very very nice motors, the power, mpg and reliability are very very good and not many motors can give all three of those like that, dont talk down on a motor that you have never experienced first hand for yourself, and if you have had one and you still think that then yours was a piece of ****...

Okay, no need to go all rambo here. Keep it civil... that being said 2gb, don't talk down other builds... Each has its own positives and negatives.
I am doing because I want good power, torque and great mpg...lol and I keep blowing rotary motors left and right... it just doesn't work with my driving style, but I love the FC like no tomorrow. If I was to use a rotory motor I'd have to do a quad rotor and frankly that is no where in my price range.... at the moment....
But the LSX series motors are extremely well designed. Many will see it as an abomination...aka your comment "why would you take out the heart"..... uh well duh, cuz I found a better heart (no disrespect to the rotary) than the 13b... There is a lot of designing left do in the rotary motors.
In the end I will have two FCs... one with the ls1 and another with a quad rotor...... but let's not get into the way in the future right now...cuz I focus on one project at a time.....
Back to the garage for me...

i wasnt meaning it to talk down his build.... what i was trying to ask was what caused him to do the swap... i mean yes the swap is cool and like i stated it makes ALOT of power and the power to weight ratio is amazing..... i just dont understand what causes ppl to do it...... it makes sense to me to keep the stock motor and throw that $ into it... make sense?? and cosmo TT iv had alot of experince with LS1 motors... thus including a few ls1 240s, TT ls1 vette, few lingenfelter vettes.... no i havent owned one nor will i ever. the parts are expensive and iv first hand seen many of them take a dump.... but like i said also they make great power...... i would just like to know what drove this guy to do the swap... maybe itll change my mind. idk. im curious and the build looks f***ing amazing!!!!!!!!

Fair enough... so here was my reasoning....
1. I wanted something different and my car was already RHD, so why not go 3-rotor or quad or LS1. Because I wanted something different, obviously putting a 2-rotor back in was just out of the question. ( so as to answer your question "why not just keep the same motor", its because I wanted to do something different... wanted my car to be different that a normal one)
2. I'm sure your experience is significant, but like yourself, I have a bit of experience with the LS1 motors. My father is a hardcore corvette guy and has owned a number of them... currently he's owns a callaway. In all my experience with LS1 owners I've never really seen one take a dump. Things break, but in racing, things always brake... which goes to my 3rd point...
3. I will never put a 2-rotor in my car ever again... it just doesn't make sense to me... I'm wasting room in the engine bay where something bigger could be. So either a 3-rotor, quad or a ls1 were the options i was looking at. Obviously the cost of a quad rotor threw that one right out the window (for now). The comparison between the 3-rotor and LS1 came down to replacement parts and replacement part costs... in the end the LS1 parts are cheaper and easier to obtain (i.e. I can go to autozone or the junkyard if in dire straights) since the 3-rotor parts can only be obtained from Japan and then there is the added cost/uncertainty of the parts because the exchange rate is always changing and right now it complete crap... So that was the bit that pushed the decision to the ls1
All in all there were many options to choose from. No 2-rotor because I was looking to set myself apart. No quad rotor cuz its just to damb expensive. It came down to 3-rotor and LS1 and the benefits of the LS1's power to weight abilities, ease of part procurement and the added benefit of actually being able to go down to the smog station and pass with no questions asked.... tilted the scales and the LS1 was crowned victor.
There you have it... that was my exact thought process in the whole thing.

Well said Cosmo...
I guess we are just going from opposite sides of the same circle here lol... you are going rotary and then maybe ls1... I'm coming the other direction... ls1 then rotary. In the end all that really matters is that we enjoy what we build. I know there are a lot of purists out there... but I'm not one of them. So let's return this thread back on topic of this build. I'm sure the other people reading this thread don't appreciate this getting all side tracked.
That being said...
Since this is not a LS vs Rotary thread, please keep comments to the topic of the build. Ideas are always appreciated and comments on the build, even more so. Thanks!
I will be back in the lab tomorrow so hopefully Friday or Saturday night I'll post some more pics... if we're lucky maybe even a video of it driving... I'll be praying for that every night ahahahaa!

Thanks Cyanide,
The widebody is orignally from feed but modified by DM motorsports in Redlands.
Just a few quick shotouts to...
Tek-One in Riveside for the LS1 swap, installing the tilton pedal assembly and lines, wire tucking the engine bay and cleaning up all the stock fc wiring, beefing up the roll cage, etc.
AERODUO Spoilers for the original widebody kit, the mazdaspeed front lip and wing extension, the ohlins suspension [lol currently being rebuilt], the bride seat rails, and most imporantly the front RHD clip that donated it's firewall, dash and steering rack for the rHD conversion.
Audio Extreme in San Benardino for the wicked sound system
Dakota Digital for the new instrument cluste and defi for the guages and HUD
As we approach sevenstock look for more pics and updateds as we continue to finishnup the projectin preparationfor my favorite event of the year!

Yes, I love it. I want to get it redone, I molded the widebody fenders to the car... which is nice but I'm pretty sure it won't last long with how I drive the car. I like the way it looks, going to be adding some sideskirt lip action soon... they are in the works now....
Got the car up and running again and she should be making appearances once the body kit is complete and I get the car wrapped or repainted, still going back and forth on this...

So, what have I been up to lately...lol
Finally finishing up the carbon fiber lip kit I've been working on....
Redid the front lip in carbon with some modifications to the Mazdaspeed design
Sideskirts are coming in nicely, but not ready for pictures, they still need to be finished.
Rear Heat shield guards came out nicely
Now just need to wait for the lip to cure, finish the detailing the sideskirts and on to the last piece of the puzzle, the carbon rear diffuser.

HAha, So I ran out of carbon fiber, still waiting for it to arrive so I can finish the lip... In the meantime, decided to fix my broken rear toe links and crappy rear camber (found out I was -3.5 in the rear) so I swung by battle version and Alex got me all set up with new toe links and new subframe rod.... What an awesome guy, and great products they are really well build... anyway here's what they look like on the car...
Note how much beefier the Battle Version units are, the links are also super strong and durable!! Can't wait to test them out on the track!
Sorry for the blurry picture, just realized this lol I'll fix it later
Now the toe is corrected and camber went from -3.5 to -1.5... 2 degrees...nice, still waiting for the MMR racing links to come in, then we should be able to zero this baby out.... Those MMR guys are taking forever!!! lol does anyone know how to get ahold of them cuz they aren't picking up their phones or anything...?? odd...
