AR My 88 Carb'd N/A Bridgeport

Alright before we start lets keep the negativity to ourselves here...... Please

Well its an white, with blue interior, manual windows and manual mirrors. The body is in pretty good shape only one small dent on the passenger door, and a few surface rust spots mostly on the window trim pieces. The sunroof has some major rust spots and the rear hatch has one bad spot, but i'm not too worried. I did buy some new to me side mirrors off another member, mine were all cracked, and the glass itself fell off the drivers side the first time I closed the door The interior isn't perfect but it will clean up nice, couple stains in the carpet and the seat covers. Its missing the center bezel and radio surround and the radio wiring is chopped up pretty bad, previous owner.... The shifter boot is crappy as well as the ****.

Now, flame suite on, the engine is a from the previous its a "hybrid...." 13b, s4 n/a housings and rotating assembly and full bridge ported 84 12a center and end plates. Racing Beat header into what looks like a Bonez presilencer and Apexi N1? exhaust. I installed an 84 GSL-SE distributor with the leading running through an MSD 6AL box to the stock 88 coil and the trailing running through the distributor. Also a Racing Beat intake from an old school 4 port 13b and a 600 Holley carb and FPR set to 6.5 psi. The carb isn't perfect yet, I know it never will be, but i'm waiting on some jets to help out.

The biggest problem I have at the moment is the exhaust, I know its going to be loud but its just TOO loud. I'm willing to leave some power on the table to quite it down just a bit. Also as you can see the previous owner did not do me any favors with the wiring... its a mess, the wiring to e-fan is a jumble and the right side harshness is a huge ball of wires. I have what i need connected but its just going to take some time to clean up. Lastly the e-fan thermoswitch needs to be replaced, the fan comes on a bit late for my taste, at about 3/4 of the temp gauge, and its set to the lowest setting.

Well enough talk here are some pics

Looks good! Get rid of the fart cannon and get a real muffler setup from magnaflow or something and that should quiet it down.

Yea its stupid loud and I hate it. I'm thinking of going with a Racing Beat road race or something similar, I really want a duel out setup. I haven't gotten a chance to get it above 35-40 yet, I live on a military base and the speed limit is low and just haven't driven it off base yet. When i figure the exhaust situation out i'm going to take it out and see how the carb reacts to higher revs and speeds.

Very interesting. Good luck with it and have fun! Interior and exterior look to be in pretty good shape. I have much love for the blue interiors.

Your engine setup sounds pretty interesting, I'd like to see how it runs

Little update,

I've been driving it back and forth to work almost everyday and she's hasn't let me down once. I even took a little drive to a friends house, Proz07, and we went out and cruised a bit. It ended up being about 60 miles round trip with no issues at all. No stumbling in the higher revs, though I've not gone over 6500 yet. I have her idling at 1450-1550 it doesn't like anything lower, i'm not perfect with carbs so I can live with it.

To be honest I have no idea how the jacket o-rings where installed, but thankfully no issues at all with cooling, since i replaced the e-fan thermoswitch, and I haven't lost any coolant. One day if/when she blows i'll take some pics during the tare down.

All in all I am quite happy with how it's turning out, still a lot to do but she's not my DD so I have nothing but time.

IDK, the center iron ports are crazy tall. I'll have to look at some FD iron pics but they look suspiciously like 12a irons...

it's not that difficult to machine the rotor housings to accept the seals. i can have it done for $400.

these hybrid motors aren't cutting edge, this has been done for many years for as long as the irons have been breaking.

late model 13B housings cut by the shop i use next door(cut for early seals).

mazda knew it was a design flaw which is why the 13B-MSP renesis placed the seals back into the rotor housings. only '1986-2002 engines had the irons place the coolant seals and 10's of thousands failed and are still failing. 1969-1985 and 2004-2011 all had them in the rotor housings. the early center irons actually had the best design for large porting and were great for bridges.

Major Updates

Well I have had it with the BP, it was just too much. So I purchase a good used runner from a guy on craigslist and drove up to Springfield MO to get it. Side-note there are some really nice driving or riding roads through the mountains in northern Arkansas. Anyways a tank of gas and $300 later I had an S4 NA long block, harness, ecu, and spare tranny. I pulled the BP cleaned up the engine bay and threw in the new engine. To my surprise after removing emissions and installing block-off pates she fired right up with no leaks or hiccups. I still need a few things like stock fan shroud, an S4 NA throttle cable not sure which is currently on it but I made it work, AC lines/condenser, RB style header with pressure tube for the 5/6th port which are current closed, radio, figure out why the blower motor is inop, an S4 instead on the S5 radio surround, plus various little things....

I haven't decided what to do with the BP, sell/part-out, but if i tear it down ill post some pics.

Anyways here are some picks of how she sits at the moment. Let me know what you guys think. P.S I know she needs a bath
Thanks, Justin

hah nice! may want to get the BAC valve back on for smoother idle, esp if you're putting AC in it

I have been contemplating that, we will see how it goes when I get the AC hooked back up. Anyways if you see the last pic you'll notice that I'm in need of a shifter ****...... I just wish there was someone I knew that could make me one...... Seriously though when I decide what **** I want you'll be the first to know.

Yeah I was about to say put the BAC back on, theres no good reason to remove it.

That BP setup was pretty cool too bad it didnt work out. With a quieter exhaust on it Im sure it would have been fine.

So I had an extra UIM, TB, and Dynamic Chamber, and i decided its time to start "prettying-up" the engine. I striped them down and prepped them for paint, I used VHT black high temp wrinkle paint. this is how some of it looks after 2 coats, i'm impressed. It looks even better in person and I cant wait to see it installed. More to come when its installed.

For future reference...
When using wrinkle paint, heat up the paint and the part first.
I usually put the can in a pot of very hot water and preheat the part in a LOW oven.
This will result in very even, fine wrinkling.
It's difficult to get a uniform surface (especially on odd shaped parts) but heat will help a lot.

I tried to talk my wife into letting me preheat them in the oven, it didn't go my way... All in all it still looks amazing, and I can't wait to install it later today.

Haven't posted any updates in awhile so here we go.
Installed cruise control, works great and damn i love it.
Kinda fixed the sunroof, I can open and close it bye myself but it struggles and takes a minute or so each way.
Installed a cheapo sony radio, BTW I want to hurt the previous owner because the wires where cut and in a big jumble....
Installed a fan shroud, thanks Landon, even though you put the wrong address and I had to go to the neighbors 5-6 houses down to get it....
Also installed the BAC, but having some idle problems now....
Well now onto a couple pics, here is my first set-up VS my current. Much happier with the current.

Nice!! Sorry about the wrong address hahaha. I swear I double check stuff like that.

You should def get a factory radio & start building up your cassette tape collection
