Build thread for my new 10th Ae

Well, I might as well post a build thread for my new FC. But before getting to that, I guess I'll give a little background on myself. (If you want to skip to the cars, skip the next paragraph).

My name is Kenyon, I'm 17 and live in NV right now (moving to Oregon in a month or two though). I'm a Jr in College, and I'll be finishing school up in SOU, which is kinda why I'm moving to Oregon. Though the school is kind of an after thought, I just thought it would be cool to live there. I'll be majoring in Computer Security & Info Assurance (I forgot the actual name of it, but that's what it is). I'm currently working teaching computers at a vocational school for medically restricted people. I'm really good with computers, not so good with cars :P I've learned a lot about cars since I first bought my truck back in 2008, since I've done pretty much all the work to my cars myself since then. But I don't have any car savy friends to help, it's been slow going & I have a hard time diagnosing them in the first place since I usually have no idea where to even look. But I try anyways, and I enjoy doing it.

Anyways, onto the cars. This is my 3rd car, however it's my first Rotary (first Mazda actually). The cars are a '97 Nissan Altima (piece of crap with 250k+ miles), '91 Ford Explorer (awesome truck, only 80k miles), and now my RX-7. My plan is to use this as a track car, at some point maybe I'll use it as a weekend car too but right now I can't afford to insure 3 cars haha.

Right now the car is having some issues with coolant leaks & overheating (check my other thread if interested), and I forgot the list of all the mods done to the car; I'll update this post when I get the list emailed to me. But here is a couple pictures of what the car looks, I'll post up more pictures as I take them.

I probably don't need to tell you, but it's an RE: Amemiya front end which I personally think is sweet looking

P.S. I don't take a whole lot of pictures, but as I work on the car I'll try and actually remember to take pictures/document the stuff I've done hahaha.

It's too bad that this was one of the few rare 10th ae cars because i think such rare cars should be kept stock but otherwhise it's a damn nice looking RX7 now.

Yea, but I gotta say I like this front end 1000000 times more than stock. Something about the whole popup bugeye lights just really gets me.

the front end ruins the car. sell the front bumper for like 600 with lights and all and get it back to where it needs to be

If its a re or not, doesnt matter. Keep the car how you like and what you find is best. Just use the 10th ae as a selling feature later if decide to let it gone. Ps I hope its real!

I agree, i'm all for doing whatever makes that person happy, don't build your car for anyone else. I just like to see them in the US

I am pretty sure it's real, but I have no idea how to check. Do you guys know how to check?

And yea, I decided years ago that once I own the car I'm going to do whatever I think looks cool and if other people disagree then they can do something else to their car hahah xD

So apparently you can't edit your first post haha, so I'll put it here.

List of mods that I believe (or can recall) that have been done to the car. If anyone wants to confirm/deny any of these that would be great.
Garrett T3/T4 Turbo
GReedy fmic
Afco racing radiator
Removed powering steering

I know there was more, I just can't remember and the guy hasn't emailed the list to me yet. Anyways, here's some engine bay pictures:

Okay, so here's the complete list of mods that I can get (more things could be done, but the guy I bought it from doesn't know of anything more).

Afco full racing radiator
Electric cooling fans
Apexi blow-off valve
Apexi dual tip turbo cat back exhaust
Apexi downpipe
Racing beat lowering springs
Tokiko Illumina 5 way adjustable shocks
Front & rear cross-drilled rotors
Garrett T3/T4 Turbo
RE Amemiya front end
Removed power steering (I think)
GReddy old style front mount intercooler

It has 18" wheels, but I don't know what they are.

Some knockoffs are visually hard to tell from the correct part, so I can only say what looks right.

Afco full racing radiator - No Pics
Electric cooling fans - There is no mechanical fan, so there better be an electric fan.
Apexi blow-off valve - Looks right.
Apexi dual tip turbo cat back exhaust - Looks right.
Apexi downpipe - No Pic.
Racing beat lowering springs - They should be red. Ride height looks about right.
Tokiko Illumina 5 way adjustable shocks - Yes
Front & rear cross-drilled rotors - Can't see.
Garrett T3/T4 Turbo - No clear pics.
RE Amemiya front end - Looks right.
Removed power steering (I think) - No. The power steering pump is still installed on driver's side.
GReddy old style front mount intercooler - Piping looks right.
It has 18" wheels, but I don't know what they are. - Konig Feather's?

I know it has the Afco radiator, that one was easy (big label on it saying so haha). I'll update on the other things in a bit when I go adjust the TPS. Anyways, the car is really (and I mean really) easy to turn when it isn't moving (and isn't on), and it also wants to go straight a lot more than my other cars do (which my other cars have power steering) so is there any way it could have the pump and just be disconnected or something? Cause I have a really hard time believing it actually has power steering based on how it handles haha.

As for the wheels, is there anyway I could check that or would I just have to go off pictures?

Which ecu does it have to control the bigger turbo and stuff?

Honestly, I have no idea. I'm wondering if it's running stock & maybe that's why the engine blew? There was an HKS FCD in the car though (not installed, in the storage buckets), but I'm not sure if it works...

And as per the racing beat lowering springs, only springs I see are blue?

I have older Racing Beat springs that are a baby-blueish color. My dad put them on years ago, so i believe that yours are RB too, just not the ones they sell now. I think the older ones are shorter and stiffer anyway. I love my ride height and feel paired with the older KYBs that they're paired with.

Does anyone know how I could check for an aftermarket EMS? I can't imagine it would be that hard, I'm just not sure where to look... Maybe under the driver side dash?

Stock Ecu is under the passenger's feet on the firewall. Pull the sill cover, corner kick panel, pull up the carpet, and remove the metal panel covering the ecu. Stock ecu's have a N3XX number. If it isn't there, follow the wire harness.

Awesome, thanks. That panel is missing in general (came that way), but in a minute here I'll go check and see if I can't find the ECU

Yup, so it is a stock ecu. And I don't think it has an FCD installed (there was one in the car, but it never got attached, maybe there is a different one installed?). Hopefully my rotors & housing are okay...

What do you guys think the best aftermarket ecu for an 88 FC would be? I really like the power fc, but I guess they only made those for the FD? I'd prefer something I could plug into my laptop too, but I guess I'm not going to die if I can't

Banzi racing makes a harness adaptor so you can use a FD power FC.
