Ive wanted a Turbo2 since I got into Rx7s but they are getting hard to find and the ones you do find are either already modded or just beat on too much to do anything with it imo. It would be cool to Turbo2 swap a vert because that is how they were sold on the japanese market. It just is expensive to do because 9 out of 10 youre going to want to rebuild the engine before installing it. I couldve bought one too with the money Ive spent but at least when my car is on the road I can feel accomplished that I installed my first engine. I really dont care if other people dont like it.

Phillipstompkins, their is turbo2 verts from factory but you have to look in jdm. in fact there is an efini model vert not many people know of but you are right about having a back up car when you have an rx7. i used a gxl as a dd and had a vw jetta as a back up dd and good thing for that because my gxl was not that reliable but i still loved it. wish i kept it. s4vert, that is awesome you turbo swapped a vert! take care of it! tryingtobebest, it is a very clean rx7 for the most part. the cleanest one ive owned anyway. thanks for the support though i am definitely keeping this car and finishing it. i spent too much time and money to let it go now

Tried charging the battery and starting the car yesterday. No go, the starter is just spinning and not touching the flywheel. I need to jack up the car and take out the starter and see whats going on. I had a hard time trying to spin the engine by hand but I highly doubt its seized. It might take me awhile now that I have another car I have to work on first and its been freezing outside for the past 2 weeks.

When the weather permits you, check the starter opening to see if the flywheel is lined up with the starter plunger. Just a thought, did you reinstall the throw out bearing? Not sure if that makes a difference, but it seems like it would push the flywheel out to match the starter plunger once it's activated. Or if you used a different starter, maybe the starters are slightly different.

No problem S4vert! I have a feeling Im going to be the same way when my Rx7 is road ready. I want to Turbo2 swap mine but I know it will be awhile before I have the chance to do that. I was thinking of trying to find a somewhat cheap and rebuilt s5 n/a engine and do the turbo conversion to that engine and drop it in once I have everything I need for the conversion. That way my 7 doesnt sit for months again.
About the starter, I kind of think its the solenoid on the starter. Ive had trouble with it before right when I installed the engine and once in awhile it'll not kick the starter over because it doesnt have the correct voltage or my solenoid is just bad. I cleaned all my grounds in the engine compartment and there is a brand battery so I dont see how the system would have low voltage. My stepdad helped me bolt my engine to the trans during the install and he accidently bolted the ground for the starter to the next bolt above the long starter mounting bolt so Ive been thinking that has something to do with it too. It needs to installed on the long starter mounting bolt for a proper ground in my opinion. I put a brand new clutch kit on the engine including a new throw out bearing. I actually have another brand new one laying around somewhere but I forget where. I used the starter that came with my car, it was sitting in the trunk since this was a shell when I bought it. I have another starter but its an automatic s5 starter and its different and so is the solenoid so its useless to me. The starter was aligned so I dont see how it would just become unaligned. I started the car and let it run then shut it down and when I went to restart it, it never kicked over and hasnt since then so it leads me to believe its the solenoid acting up again. Once the snow melts Ill be out there working on it. Thanks a lot though man! I wish you luck with your vert too even though its completed. To some people though, the project never ends

Oh, my bad. I read your post wrong, I thought you said the plunger teeth were not catching the flywheel. Yeah, it could be just the soleniod.
Thank you, so true projects never end, the swap was just the beginning for me. I have been able to get by shopping on E Bay and Craigslist and on this web site too. It's good to know parts and help is just a few clicks away.

I was thinking they werent aligned at first but I remember the solenoid issue I had. I know its the solenoid, it has to be. Thank you though, good luck to you too. I got the car started today. I had to pop the clutch so I know its the solenoid on the starter. Since there is a big storm hitting us right now I put the vert back in a garage and Im thankful for that. I hate having to cover it and leave it sit outside. Im going to out there this weekend to find out whats up with the solenoid or whatever it is.

I haven't really done anything to the Rx7 since I just bought a 240sx that needs some work. All of my time has been consumed by the 240sx lately. Now that the weather is warming up its time for me to get my a$$ in gear and get the Rx7 on the road by June. I have decided to go with a compression test first to determine the quality of the seals in the engine. If it turns out the engine has low compression it will be pulled and Ill buy a running one with good compression and sell the blown one. If it turns out to have good compression I will buy a TPS and go from there to find the culprit of my lousy idle. Im positive my throttle cable is too tight because when I put my foot under the pedal and pull towards me the car dies out. I hope to get the starter out this weekend and have it tested.

Really? I thought it had something to do with the opening and closing of the butterfly valves on start up? I guess it can't hurt to try it out I need to get my starter out first though. Im about 80% positive my starter is no good.

Is that an online store or an actual car parts store? Ive never heard of O'rileys before. I was thinking of just trying to find a cheap one off someone parting out their S5 N/A.

Today I thought I found the source or sources of the problem as to why my starter hasnt been turning over. The positive power wire that bolts to the starter was lose, a small green wire to black wire was broken and a spade connector managed to get disconnected which is all odd because I havent touched the starter in months and I do not remember seeing or doing anything of the sort. Turns out after tightening the bolt up, fixing the broken wire and reconnecting the spade connector on the starter nothing happened other than a louder click at the solenoid. Im actually hearing a click from in the engine bay and from the solenoid if Im hearing things right.
