Scary when you think about it... I don't care what anyone says I feel a car is much more enjoyable when you did all the work on it with your bare hands. On top of that you save TONS of money at the same time!

Yep, to me, that is the whole point of the project. You lucked out and found a good body already done, now you can spend more on the rest of the upgrades, and doing one hell of a fine I might add.

Thanks, there is a great deal of satisfaction doing it with one's own hands, even moreso when it's successful and admired. The looks and thumbs up I get driving it around is a great ego boost. Should be even more fun after the TII swap.

It was the 2nd engine and powdercoating. The green is a candy teal.

This amazes me even more, especially considering my second thoughts about even rebuilding the Nikki! Very admirable T.

Heres a link with more about my car. I should really update the thread with more pictures.

https://www.rx7club.com/1st-generation-specific-1979-1985-18/parts-really-coming-together-widebody-project-update-575526/

I still haven't mounted the rear tires because i'm getting a 8.8" setup out back, then figuring out what i'm going to do for rear brakes. Then taking custom measurements to get the rear rims to fit the best they can.

I should also mention that Luiml parted out his car the only good thing that came out of that is I got alot of his parts for my car. But its truely a shame, his car really inspired me with my build.

I love it.

I remember when those widebody kits came out. I had a 260z in highschool, and half my time in class was spent drooling over the Bob Sharp Z catalog, wishing I could afford to rebody my sad looking Z.

One weekend riding in a friend's Roadrunner we saw an RX-7 with a real similar look to yours, only it was blue with gold mesh wheels. It was loud, low and mean looking. I pointed it out, and my friend tried to get up next to it to see if he would race. We finally got next to him, and both slowed to about 10 mph. My friend had the near stock 383 (headers, rejet for the avs, electronic ign, open element air cleaner) in his RR at the time, but we figured it could handle this car. We were wrong. Both cars spun, the RR jumped maybe a car length after 2nd gear, then the 7 reeled us in and passed us, putting maybe half a car on us by the end.

We pulled along side, I congratulated him, asked what engine he had. When he told me "70 cubic inches", I was pretty impressed. My buddy didn't believe him, figured he had to have nitrous/turbo/nuclear gerbils.

This was 1986, that '68 RR ran high 13's with that 383 on street tires. I guess from that point on I had respect for rotaries, but lack of knowledge of them and peer pressure of all my mopar buddies kept me from trying one.

LOL, thanks for those memories. I grew up in Lincoln and had 71 383 Road Runner. Never did go up against a rotary with it but beat most every other RR in town, until I pulled up next to a built GTX 6-Pack one day.
