Christ, zx flares are so goddamn hot.
I'm not a fan of the squared-off front chin spoiler though. Makes the front end look heavy and unbalanced. You've done great work with the DIY suspension. Major kudos for thinking outside the box.

Any chance you have, or could, do a write up on how you made the coil overs? I'm in the same predicament with finding something and have decided fabricating my own might be the best bet. Sharing your knowledge would help a lot.

To those that want a write-up, I dont really have enough quality pics. And I am still actively working out bugs with my setup. It isnt as simple as building the coilovers and bolting them on. So many other systems are affected you have to modify quite a bit. Dont get me wrong, my coilovers worked beautifully when I initially installed them. Id never driven an FB that handled so well. But there are still some things that need tweaked and improved. Id hate to tell you how to build a set of potentially sub-par coilovers. In time I may put something together, but Id like to be happy with my car first.
One of the issues I have is bump-steer. It wasnt an issue with the 13's. With the lower offset and wider tires I have terrible bump-steer. Looking under my car showed my control arms were inverted, so I ordered a set of RCA's (and some light weight lug nuts!)
The other issue I had was that my rear bump stops needed cut down, removing them caused them to fall apart. Searched 7club showed that this was a common issue, and replacements are difficult to source. Close inspection of the factory bump stops showed they were just hunks of rubber glued to a flat washer. So, I cut down a set of front bump stops and epoxied them to a washer. Problem solved!
The RCA's lowered the front about 3/4" so I lowered the rear to match, and got rid of some of the extreme rake that it had. I am starting to really like this height!! Depending on how it drives though, I may raise it back up a little.

Great minds think alike... I built coilovers like that for my 83 cressida years ago, and used the same split collar setup. If a 3800lb land yacht with 800/500lb springs doesn't shift them, then nothing an rx7 can do will make them fail.
I may have missed it, but did you redrill the rear axles as well?

The biggest issue with the 4x100 pattern is that you will never get a center cap on the wheels. Most are too short to cover the grease caps in the front. Not that it would matter if they were tall enough as the wheels fit over the hubs so tightly, and the hubs extend so far out. That there is no way to install a center cap. Center caps dont bother me, so I dont mind it.
I actually was first introduced the the shaft collar clamp idea while staring at the TTT rear coilovers for the FB. Then I found its been done for years on Datsun 510s, 210s, and quite a few other early japanese cars. My research led me to a thread you in fact posted in referring to your Cressida. After seeing so many people doing it, and emailing TTT to ask about the reliability of the collars I was convinced. Still I think a lot lke an engineer and I know there is risk of failure with any part. Whether its bad manufacturing, or improper installation/use. So I still keep an eye on them. With some of the roads I have driven down, if they were going to fail though, they should have already.

Boogered up the rear axle holes, had to source new ones and start from scratch. Had to wait quite awhile for parts like this,
So that's whats been happening the last few weeks. Sourced all the parts and,
Mmmmm.... Its good to be driving a rotary again...

When I welded the rear top hats together for the coilovers, one wasnt perfectly centered. This led to the passenger side spring always making odd noises under heavy compression. Finding 1.8 inch tophats wasnt the easiest thing to do. Thanks to South West Speed, I sourced a pair, and now the rear sounds and operates like stock.... Other than the higher spring rate!
Also, ever since I did the 2GCDFIS the coil bracket was only held by a single bolt. Finally, it is properly hard mounted. And nice and level, unlike before.
And for fun....

A local photographer was taken with the 'ole FB at the Dayton Cars and Coffee. This resulted in some high quality photography!
Big BIG thanks to Trapspeed photography! I love their work!
