Finally, my build thread, some weird crap in here :)

well with some driving around, i have found a couple things that i need to take care of before i really feel comfortable going somewhat distance with it. first the tranny has a pretty bad bearing noise under deceleration in 4th and 3rd. and i have a noise coming from the rear end. both of them i wasn't really sure how many miles were on them, so i was planning on rebuilding them at some point. sadly as a broke college student, I'm not sure when that is going to happen. so I am still planning on taking it to the first day of the oregon trail rally, but after that it's going to sit in the garage for awhile.
or at least until i can scrape together the money for the rebuild kits and a small press. it's going to have to sit.
kind of a sad realization, all this time and it's going to come down to about $500 worth of stuff that is going to stop it in it's tracks. i just can't warrant spending that right now when classes should be coming first.
but i'll get on it one day. i'm mildly burnt out on the car right now. i was really excited to get out and drive it. the thought of ripping **** all apart again is not sounding very good to me right now.

ha, I wish, until money flows more freely I'm keeping my *** off stage for the sake of my wallet and living style, ie. having a roof over my head.
i am thinking of next year running just friday of OTR at PIR so i could give it a shake down and it would be better then rally cross.

well i took it out to PIR to show it off, had many of comments ranging from, very cool, to WTF.
love it or hate it, its doneish.
all the big stuff is clearly done, but now it has to come back apart to swap trannys and deal with the rear end noise and some sort of LSD.
but here's a picture of it all back together and painted.
thanks for watching this thing come together.

i chuckled when i saw this because this MUST be a joke - particularly for a man with your skills. i see a shimmering image of a v.2 on the horizon ....
but seriously ... i hadn't been following religiously since my last post, but i just read through the whole thread and it's good to see you succeeded in getting to a point where you could enjoy the fruits of your labor.

I love this thing like crazy, I have built a street legal go cart. It corners great, its got enough brakes to rip your face off, and it goes pretty quick because its pretty damn light, 2400 pounds with full cage in it. Now if i could just find a damn transmission that doesn't sound like it has a bucket full of gravel in it, I would be good.
As for V 2.0, I have unfortunately seen what one of these cars look like with proper FIA cage in it. And frankly I need to lose about 5 inches in height and about 50+ pounds. It's cramped as hell in there, and some of the new bars the older cages didn't require are almost in direct line of sight. So short of finding another older grandfathered in SCCA cage, which when built new required smaller tubing and less bars, I'm really thinking I'm going to sway away from the rx7s for any future rally cars.
And as I get older and actually give a crap if I die, I'm keep looking at cars that I can build to be safe and be fun. And I always go back to the Volvo 242. Built like a tank, aren't to heavy with a full cage, but lots of room inside to fit a cage properly and to fit seats that fit me, rather then seats that fit the car, because, I really want some winged seats. I have been planning a build for one of those. The path I'm going to go with it, LS1 power.
