1980 SA22 Rally Build
Hey Guys I have little knowledge on rotary engines so please go easy on me. I have a 1.1L 12A engine and I believe that if I keep this engine I will be way underpowered and won't even be able to compete. But I did a little bit of research and I found that supposedly a Bridgeported GSL-SE 13B block with a 48 IDA downshaft should be able to give me plenty of power to keep up and it wont produce too much power for the GSL-SE LSD to handle. By the way my plan is to completely convert the suspension to the 85 GSL-SE suspension and then upgrade also I was thinking of getting the Tii Transmission. I have the car completely stripped and is ready for a roll cage. This is my first build so if you have any tips or tricks please feel free to help me out
Thanks guys,
Ben
I also have the Extreme Dimensions Gp1 body kit

i really think intake, header, exhaust is going to be more than enough. You aren't going to put down more power than that in the gravel, regardless of tires. I would run your 12a until it blows up, then upgrade. horsepower/torque are just going to make it that much harder to drive your car. RWD is the most difficult class to drive in rally, adding power should be the last thing. focus on suspension and more specifically, traction and car balance.

first are we talking stage rally or rallycross?
secondly, if you are talking stage rally, get the rule book from either Rally America or NASA Rally Sport, both are free online. Read it until you thoroughly understand it
Thirdly, join either Rally Anarchy.com or Specialstage.com for rally specific advice on your build.
There are many things that work, and many more that dont. Then there is a grey area of whats your preference. Rally is about finishing, more than it is about finishing first. The last thing want to concern yourself with is power. Its should making sure the will not fail and stay cool. suspension is a huge factor in this. Brakes are another very important consideration.
