1979 IMSA GT Rx-7 Restoration
A customer of mine recently purchased this car and we are planning on bringing it back to life and its fire breathing goodness. a brief history on the car. This car was supposedly the FIRST Rx-7 in the states. Built into a race car and raced for awhile then changed ownership a few times. Then the car sat behind someones house for awhile. An old business associate of mine acquired the car and..............it sat. Now finally a good friend of mine purchased the car and a full restoration is in he works.

What's the VIN number say??? No VIN no proof of prominence. My lord, looking at the pictures there seems to be no original sheet metal. That thing has been hacked.
Fixed the images for you.

Made a bit of progress the last few days, stripped the donor car, cut out the rockers, got one fit and welded on the car.
Heres a pic of how the rockers looked before, pretty hammered
The new rockers being fit
And the almost finished product. Needs to be sanded and metal finished and the rear trimmed to fit the larger wheelhouse.

John Finger is my local Mazda delarler here in Greenville, SC. He got a few interisting cars in his collection (old mini copper with an RX-8 engine) and he just ran with Mazda on Thunderhill with the speedsource mazda 6
