So i bought an rx7 a few months ago and i figured il make a build thread so i can look back at it later
oh and just ignore grammatical errors pls
Lets start with the story about the car
So i was scrolling through Facebook one day and saw an ad for a "Mazda rx-7" witch i actually could afford and i was like yeah rx7s are cool so why not. I opened the ad and there was a well written ad which basically said Sadly i have to sell my car because i don't have a garage anymore, it had a red mirror, a loose headlight cover and a misfiring problem (he said it sounded like a boat).
i thought it sounded like a good deal so i sent him a message saying that i wanted to buy it and added a few questions about rust etc, since it was in Sweden and i live in Finland it wasn't just to go over and look at it so i had to commit.
about a week after the first message i went to Sweden with my dad and met up with the guy at a Volvo dealer, we followed his car and after 5-10 minutes of driving we pulled up to a hangar at a train station it was exactly like the Los Santos Customs under the bridge at the train tracks in GTA 5. We walked in to the hangar and there it was!
It was the most beautiful car i have ever seen, the guy selling it was a really nice guy so i didn't expect him to lie to me so i bought it, paid it in cash about 4000€ we shook hands and i owned an rx7. the day after i started trying to get it to run properly by deflooding and all that but i got no other result then huge flames.
i ordered a endoscope from ebay and went to work found out half an apex seal on the front rotor had broken off so i went to message the previous owner about it since he said it ran like it should when he put it in the garage, he still said it did and still was nice about it, it did seem like he didn't know a lot about about rotarys so i think it has been broken the whole time he has owned it and only gotten worse by time or something like that.
i still think i got a good deal a nice pretty much stock rust free fd for 4000€
Now im just saving money for a rebuild so this is probably going to be the slowest build ever.
it was imported from Japan to Sweden in 2010 and has pretty much been sitting since then.
Tires was marked 2010 and they are still like new, toyo r888 some really nice tires!
Okay so if anyone is reading this i have a few questions,
is this Japanese paper anything cool?
and i see no visual difference between the type r and the regular fd so how do you tell?

Today i started to tear down the engine
Im honestly so lost but its probably going to run again.. Mabye
Then the manual told me to remove the downpipe.
I was like nah and changed some bushings i had laying in the garage

Looks like you got a nice FD. Take your time with the rebuild and study the FSM. It also helps to take pics and document where things go incase your build takes awhile and you forget where things go. This site has a lot of useful information so if you have any questions use the search tool and if you can't find the answer then post the question.

Did some stuff today
Went to BadassRacing and borrowed an engine lift
Removed more stuff
Then it was time to start lifting, well i wanted to but the car didnt..
Didnt know that you had to remove the clutch slave cylinder so i had to bolt the transmition back on and remove the slave cylinder and pop the bearing thing
Then it finally wanted to cooperate
Well.. Someone tried doing burnouts..

Dont have money to buy parts for rebuild atm so decided to fix the broken odometer..
Found a guide on how to remove the dash and it didnt seem hard at all
Still following the guide no problem
Aaand i fucked up.. Broke the plastic shield thing which connects to the cluster pod.. They seem rare so ill just glue and paint it later. Or anyone selling?
Took it inside and started looking for broken capacitors
Didnt want to brake anything else so im just going to leave this to someone who knows what they are doing.

you can disassemble the speedo by removing the needle (use a small flat head screw driver to pop it up) and then by ungluing and twisting the black gauge face. Lift up the black face and unscrew the clear plastic front. The plastic front will come out by unscrewing it and you'll have full access to all the capacitors underneath.
I had to check my capacitors like this. Unfortunately half of pcb was burnt out and I had to replace the entire cluster.

Finally started doing stuff again
Me and my dad took a 2day roadtrip to pick up a new engine last weekend.
All seals are new, housings and rotors are like new and it has 3mm seals
Also decided to do something about the red mirror.
Turned out alot better than I expected
Now I have to order some seals and a clutch so I can start putting it back togheter.

oh, havent updated in 4 years i guess
Finished the rebuild 2018ish
Drove it for almost a full summer then i got crazy endplay and had to take it back to the guy who built the engine
got it running again for about a month or so then i lost clutch
let it sit for almost a full summer since i couldnt be bothered. Found out i had cracked the clutch fork so now i need to order one of those to run this summer
friend had a alu radiator sitting so i bought it
i had a little intercooler laying around so decided it could sit there. charge pipes powder coated
charge pipe
also bought a new gauge hood since i broke that
and thats pretty much where i am now
