Project Apollo
My name is Danny I am the co-owner of Apollo Performance located in Upland, ca. It is a Subaru specialty shop. We have been open since 2007. We have a full blown street time attack wrx that was the 2011 street tire champion for Redline Time attack and have placed first in many Global time attack events. My parents bought my FD when I turned 15 and had to wait a year before I got to drive it when I got my license. It was Montego Blue and it had 60k miles. I drove it around for a while and learned basic mechanic skills on this car. That was ten years ago and in that time I can say I have drove it maybe 2000 miles. I never sold it I frequently changed the oil and fixed little things nothing major. I wanted to buy another daily driver after I went crazy on my 2006 STi but I shortly remembered that I have other cars and I looked to my rx7 and decided I would give it the TLC it deserves and get it back on the road as a daily. My goal it to build a , as reliable as possible, FD rx7 with a little style, not crazy power and just clean to keep the haters away, I hope. I am not a rotary specialist so it has been and continues to be a learning experience. Enough with the words now on to the pics. I hope you enjoy.
How she sat a couple of years ago when I gave her a shower. It is painted BMW laguna Seca blue. The dumb body shop molded every part to the car and I am going to fix that. It has a replica feed bumper and the rest of the body pieces I dont know what they are as they came on the car.
Old engine bay shot it has the greddy air pump delete, hks down pipe, greddy intake kit, and my bro bought me a Signal Auto v mount when they had a USA store.

After the first week I called my buddies Geoff and John at Full-Race and ordered a manifold from them. Also I ordered a Borg Warner S300sx Fmw turbo with cupped tip and .91 A/r exhaust housing. I decided to go Full race because I love those guys down there and we have ran their manifold on our race car for two years and the last thing we worry about it that manifold. We have switched to three different turbos and never a warped flange or anything. If people wonder when their manifolds are so expensive it is because so much time and effort and professionalism goes into their products. We had a race down in Arizona and Geoff gave us a full tour of his shop and he just blew my mind. It's amazing how much attention to detail goes into his products. On to the pics...
Pic of manifold with twin 45 gates from our other sponsor TurboSmart also a great bunch of people and amazing products and support. Thanks Marty.
pic of the manifold mocked up on a spare t4 v band exhaust side I used for the making of a downpipe

sent the manifold and hot side to get coated by Driftmotion. We have the same coating on our race car for over two years and it is holding up the monster abuse. I know it is not rotary heat but I am sure it will hold up.
Ordered some DEI gold tape from amazon and went crazy its not the prettiest but I am all about function over form.

Sorry for the crappy iphone pics I have shaky hands.... lol
While I took the fuel rails off I had my buddy at DriftMotion Garage clean and flow my injectors. Thank God I did lets just say that only three were working. lol. That explains why I was having starting issues and flooding. Now they are flowing 620cc for the primaries and 1000cc for the secondaries. I am going to be running a borg technologies Aem ems series 2 done by our tuner Ian at FSR Motorsports creation. He tunes our race car and our customer cars and lets just say our motor has been killing the competition and hasn't taken out a motor *knock on wood*. We have been running 550whp on the same motor for two seasons now and also through a Catalytic converter. I can put a straight edge on the AFRs. ok enough talking.
I redid the fuel rails by putting them in series and deleting the pulsation damper and factory FPR. I redid all the lines with -6AN Black nylon steel braided. Also my friends at TurboSmart hooked it up with a 1200 Fpr in black. Thanks Marty.
lines routed not the prettiest but I didnt wanna have a hoop near the hot side of the turbo even though I will have a blanket on it.

Mock up. I made some nice carbon fiber plates wrapped in gold Dei tape to keep the heat away but I forgot to take a pic. Anyways .... This is the first mock up. I also have on a Godspeed project Titanium Heat blanket mocked up the guys at Godspeed hooked it up it is a very quality product we have had it on the race car for a while and after a session it is very chilly around the turbo and has lasted. Thanks Ken.
mock up I painted the alternator, water pump, and water pump housing a industrial Grey it is a clean color that lasts a while. Also I prepped the WP housing so that I delete the ast and water lines that run to the turbo because the S300 is oil cooled only.
Also I bought and installed a new brake master cylinder the old one cracked and looked nasty I dont have a before and after but in the pic above is a pic of it installed and bled with AMsoil 600 fluid I have never had a pedal that hard in the RX-7. That's what she said ....lol. In the pic above is also a pic of the TurboSmart Racing bov installed. We have the same thing on the race car and it is flawless. Thanks Marty.

Also I ordered a Koyo racing V-mount rad from Rx-7 Store.net and after three weeks it finally came in. I have a set of mishimoto rad hoses on order. I am gonna have my fabricator build a square tube cage for more support on the radiator because most of the mounts on the radiator dont even fit. He is also gonna do the pipe for the cold side of the turbo.
I think I am going to use this as a filter I am not sure. I want to do a cold air set up I just dont know where in the heck I am going to run four inch pipes there is no room. We will see.
I also mildly polished the pipes and stuff it was already professionally polished before but it had 8 years of dust on it lol. I will have it back to mirror on final assembly

That's it for right now I have been working on it as a side project. Whenever I get a chance in between customer cars. Tomorrow I am going to drop by my buddy Zack's shop called G and J aircraft fittings to pick up some a couple of setrab coolers and -AN fittings and lines. He is located in Ontario, CA and let me tell you if you are looking for AN fittings and lines the place is one stop shop and at a reasonable price. If he doesnt have it. It probably doesnt exist. lol I ordered a bunch of sensors and little things off line and I am waiting for them to come it when they do I am close to firing her up and off to get her tuned. Plans in the next few months.
- Finish engine mods and get fired up.
- Get interior done. I have sparcos in but I dont like them. I am getting my stock seats wrapped in Black leather with suede inserts and red stitching. Also door cars and carpet to match.
- Get Series 2 Aem ems installed and tuned by FSR Motorsports creation.
- Order a Full Feed widebody from Ken at Shine Auto.
- Paint the Car white.
- Enjoy.....

Yes that is the double throttle that is only used for warm up. I used nylon braided because it wont heat up like steel braid. I am also wrapping all the fuel lines in fire sleeve to keep even more heat out.

From your pics you did not remove the double throttle control as Mrmatt3465 tried to tell you. Unless there is something you did not show or worded wrong.

That is not the double throttle in your pic. That is the throttle body secondarys. How are you going to make larger butterflys if you ported the throttle body?

Well small update. I am glad I decided to do a build thread and I am also grateful to RENISISFD and MRMATT3465 for pointing out the error I made in taking out the butterflys is the actual throttlebody. I feel real dumb and when I was doing it something didnt feel right but I committed the error due to the previous owner. The previous owner must have deleted the double throttle and they did a very good job there is no sign of the double throttles at all. Everything looks OEM. That made me confuse the throttle body secondaries for the double throttle and I just got confused. Anyways after feeling very dumb and wondering where the elephant in the room was. I got to working on the car and put everything back together including a rotary works throttle body. Also today I received my water level sensor and seal, water thermo sensor and picked up some Mishimoto hoses for my new radiator.
Pic of engine bay buttoned up so far still need a couple small things and she will hopefully fire up and get ready to tune.
Also I ordered a new thermo switch for the fans to kick on but I have a question. What does the connector look like because when I took everything apart it wasn't connected to anything so who knows for how long I have not had my fans working. It would begin to overheat sometimes but I would only drive it when it was cold outside My car is a 93 so all the research I have done suggests that it is a black and red wire can someone confirm. I don't want to have engine failure due to something dumb like that. Thanks in advance.

*Small update* I finally went down to my friend Zack's shop called G and J Aircraft supplies located in Ontario. It is a family owned shop and it is the local watering hole for anyone that is near or far. They have everything and anything -AN and other supplies that I never knew existed. I picked up a bunch of steel braided hose and two oil coolers for my car to replace the beat up oem ones. Not pictured is the bag full of black -AN hose ends.
Steel Braided -10 AN oil return hose covered in grey fire sleeve.
I buttoned up the engine enough to get her started and succeeded but I am having a fuel delivery isssue. I installed a brand new 255 fuel pump and I can hear it on but I am not getting any fuel pressure. I am going to troubleshoot tomorrow but she starts strong just doesnt stay on due to lack of fuel. Not bad for not having started the car for 2 years. Also I put new oil and oil filter. Good thing the fuel was almost empty as it was old so I put new fresh 91 octane. That's all for now.
