My BB R1 Build
#27
Try getting rid of the R888's since they are worse than the RA1's. If I were you I would get a pair of hoosier R6's or A6's. A6's will provide the best grip possible and you'll stick to pavement like glue.
#28
Yeah I hear they're pretty crappy to put it lightly. But I got a good deal on them so figured it'd be a good place to start out, considering I've been tracking with the 16x8s for awhile, so it'll still be more grip than I know what to do with. Then I'll get some better ones for the next set.

Here's some updates on the build, still been working all day every day on it, seems like I'm hardly making progress though. That's probably cause I take my sweet *** time with it to make sure I don't miss anything and that I'm doing it right.
I got my IC duct repaired at the local body shop. they filled all the holes with fiberglass and repainted it. so here's the before and after pics of the intercooler and duct. the intercooler is pretty much like a mirror now that I polished it back up and got all the crap off it.
I also got all the battery acid cleaned up and sprayed back over with rustoleum high temp paint
Also got the koyo nflow and fans installed and test fitted it with the IC and duct. I had a lot of trouble the first day cause I tried everyone's methods on here and it just wasn't working. after switching it back to how the brackets were stock mounted it worked like a charm and I had plenty of room, and used washers and longer bolts to get the condenser spaced just right. all in all an easy job once I figured out what I was doing and did what made sense instead of trying to flip brackets and rig up everything.
Also got all the bins and interior taken out for the battery relocation. just gotta start drilling some holes in the bins and figure out where I want to run everything inside it.

Update on the build: The car is pretty much in the end stages now. The typical rotary curse has been kicking in the whole time but I think I've made pretty decent progress for never doing any of this before and never taking one apart this much.
Got the battery relocation finished. Here it is all set up in the rear passenger bin. Got all the interior put back together minus the seats.
Here's the car after the emissions removal. Love having so much more room now. The amount of crap they have in that rats nest is ridiculous. In the pic the lower vacuum chamber is still in, it's out now. I'm glad Mazda made sure that every piece you want to take out has 10 pieces around it you have to take out first lol.
Got the coils relocated and you can also see the Sokie Tech hood dampers.
Got the new plugs and wires installed and wired up for the coil relocation.
Got absolutely frustrated always messing with the Profec Spec II and never could get it exactly how I wanted it, so finally was able to get a great deal on this Profec S on ebay. Luckily it uses the same solenoid and wiring harness so just a simple replacement of the actual controller unit in the dash.
Heres the car as it is now. Got the old turbos off and currently got a broke stud on the newer set I'm putting on so gonna have to extract it and put a new one in tomorrow so I can finish up getting the turbos in. Pretty much everything should be done this weekend with just a few small things left over. Then it'll need a tune and the IC piped welded, and need to get some injectors (still deciding on what to go with, leaning towards 1200s right now)

Thanks guys. Gmonsen, yeah I plan to get a 99 spec lip one of these days. This build is just taking a lot of money right now. Ff I was to buy another FD and have both I would keep one completely stock.
Anywho back to the build, I wasn't able to get the turbos all back on today. Spent most of the day messing with the broken stud in the manifold. Was finally able to drill it out and retap it (thanks to the help of RedBaronII), then we jbwelded the studs in so they wont be pulling out next time (and loading the nuts with anitsieze) so letting the studs bond with the jb weld before I put the turbos back in.
Other than that we got a good bit scratched off the list today. New belts put on, got the greddy pulleys on, SS braided clutch line, FC thermoswitch put in, got the injectors out to be cleaned, and a few other odds and ends. Again a big thanks to Redbaron (Robert) for helping me out today, would have taken me ages to get that manifold fixed without him. My Re-Speed oil filler neck and Supra fuel pump should be in next week.

FYI: jb weld has operating temps....i'm not sure if it will hold up to the heat on an exhaust manifold bolt....loctite or something prolly would have been a better idea.
where did you get the RE-Speed oil fillter neck? i thought we couldn't get those anymore?

Re-speed just had a group buy. As far as I know they still make them but appears to only be for group buys so you'll have to keep your eyes peeled on the group buy section. should hopefully be a group buy for oil pedestals here soon too.

Update: heres some of the newer goodies for the car. Can't wait to finish this build and stop spending money lol. The rotary curse is still kicking in every step of the way, realized yesterday that my intakes won't fit with the massive new IC put in, so had to order some custom K&N filters and hopefully can make them work. I'm so close to getting it cranked back up so I can go get the IC piped welded and get it tuned, just every little thing keeps having something else go wrong. Not to mention school is eating up a lot of time.
IO Port camera mount
Hawk DTC-60 pads for the FD, and went ahead and grabbed some LTS pads for my F150 since my stock ones are completely worn out. Really excited to see the difference between these DTCs compared to the HPS I have on there now.
Cheapo aftermarket steering wheel and hub. Just needed something smaller since my legs always hit the wheel. I've got it installed, the hub is by far not the best and I didn't even bother trying to wire up the horn. I'll mess with it another time, it's mostly a track car anyways. So far the clearance is much better and I can get a better driving position.
Got the injectors back from RC Engineering. got the primary 550s cleaned, good thing I did cause their test showed they were leaking. Also got the secondary 850s bored out to 1200s, so I shouldn't have any fuel issues at all now, especially with the supra pump going in too.
Supra TT fuel pump.
Got the interior completely back together and the new wheel/hub put on and seats back in.

Yep, here's the vid of it starting up. Had to replace the fans since one of the ones wasn't working. So now that I have both working fans, no temps above 83C . The car is getting tuned by Chris at RP next thursday so really excited what she puts out.

Got the car back from RP. Chris did an outstanding job! She put out 330hp @ 13psi! 300hp @ 10psi (low boost setting). Definitely lost a lot of low end with the conversion, but holy **** does she pull once the boost hits and it's linear all the way up the rpm range. I get full boost about 3800. Now I'm scrambling to get the car ready for the track this weekend at MSR. Switching out the Koni yellows for some Tein HAs tomorrow, gonna be a race against the clock to get her ready to go.
