The stock flywheel doesn't improve low-end torque, it just gives you an easier launch off the line. The heavier flywheel stores more potential energy.
Really, if you've driven a car with a 5-speed for more than a month, you'll have no problems with a light flywheel. It will actually IMPROVE response as you aren't accelerating a boat anchor when you rev the engine.
Go as light as you can, get in the 9lb range. You'll be VERY happy you did.
Believe me, I'm all about low-end grunt and driveability. I'm all about sequential twins and a fat powerband. A heavy flywheel is helping you out zero there.

Thanks a lot dale, I'll definitely look into it. Have any good recommendations as far as brand? Thanks much!

^ AFIK there is no twin disc clutch kit that retains the stock flywheel. It is included with the purchase of the clutch. I would definitely go as light as I can.
I like Exedy. I do not have experience with other ones though, so I can not compare
Depending on which model clutch you get the flywheel has holes all along the outside. This reduces rotational mass. And allows the engine to rev quicker. It also makes the engine rpms drop faster when shifting and makes it a lot easier to down shift and rev match.
IMO, Even though this this setup is very light It is very easy to drive on the street. So unless you plan to drag race a lot, specifically launching the car, IMO, there is no benefit to keeping the stock flywheel.
If you haven't already, check out this thread And especially post #16 it is amazing that clutch still worked!

BTW, that is the same exact clutch I have. One thing to consider though is the cost of replacement discs, It is my understanding that the carbon discs are $600 EACH!

Definitely go with an Exedy twin disc. They have many different models so it can be a bit confusing. One thing that's great is it's a complete kit (you will need an auto trans counterweight though) and you don't need a push-to-pull converter---pretty sure the OS Giken units require that which is unneeded complexity.
I'm running the version with the cerametallic pucks.... it looks like a six puck design, and they're orange in color. There have been reviews about it by myself and howard coleman in past threads

the Exedy twin sprung cerametallic is a JEWEL.
for instance take a look at the intermediate plate. most double discs just have a flat piece of steel that works as the backside of the front clutch disk and the front side of the rear disk. Exedy has a cast piece that has air between the two frictional surfaces and cooling fins.
since it has about twice the frictional surface it can use less spring rate, around 2000 pounds.
most heavier single clutches are north of 2600 pounds and hold less torque.
the flywheel is a purpose built jewel... you might just want to mount it on your wall.
i ran one for 3 years and when i sold it i found almost no measureable wear on the discs.
(had to sell it when i switched to the T56. i did call my guy at Exedy and asked him to make me a couple of discs to retain my clutch but the answer was no)
i also like Exedy's patented cerametallic compound. unlike carbon/steel it has a constant coefficient of friction.
so if you can swing it and plan to make more than 400 rwhp go for it.

Awesome build, looking forward to more pics of your interior progress, looking great so far!
Are you doing the door plastics as well? Been thinking about covering them as well, but probably in black. That 3M vinyl seems like a good option.

Thanks for all the kind words everyone,....helps keep me motivated.
correct about the surface not being completely clean. I did a quick job with the wire wheel and my buddy assured me it wouldn't be A problem. The ppf may be heavier but it will not crack.

^ what's up man?! How are you doing? Can't wait to get a ride in your car! I actually sold the meisters in favor of done wider ones. at 8 in up front and 9 in the rear...I just wasn't happy. I'm looking for some 9 to 9 1/2 's up front and 10.5's in the rear. I'll for sure be at SS just with out my ride haha.

Have you tryed to wrap the gauge cover yet? I did the same to my interior plastics and the AC panel and middle console came out great like yours. But I had to do the gauge cover twice, burned my hands with the heat gun and I felt like I needed 5 hands for that damn thing.
There are still some folds where the cover meets the hood panel. I think I have to do it again...

a little update:
The last week i've spent out in Waco, Texas. Moving everything out of my dads house. You know it's really unfortunate that things ended up the way they are and that my aunt who happens to be the executor is the person that she is. She made things hell, and when I say that I mean literally she made me and my sister feel as if we were stealing my fathers things. But I had to remember and remind my self that if he didn't want his things to go to us.. he would't have left us as his beneficiaries. I know it wasn't his will to have things turn out this way and i just have to remind myself that they are only material things. But ultimately there were sentimental things that I would have used on a day to day basis... such as his bed set and dresser's that my aunt would't let my sister and I take. Fortunately.. he left his newest truck specifically to me and my sister. My sister said I could have it..and that was awesome. But we share things anyways and me and her get along just fine so we had no problem with working out things as far as posessions because we know either of us could use eachothers stuff indefinitely if need be. But my aunt gave away his 94 show truck that my sister really wanted. His BBQ/Smoker that was one of the things I really wanted.. she gave to his neighbor.. wtf?!! and ALLLLL of his guns, she said they belong on his side of the family. Which was a real bummer because that is traditionally what a father gives his son, and that would have been nice to keep those for my son or daughter one day when I have my own family. What I did get that I'm super psyched about was all his tools. I'll use them for the rest of my life and he had some real nice ones too. Anyways.. I had to drive a 26 foot penske truck back from Waco, all the way to Cali and let me tell you.. It was a HELL of a 24 hour drive. I pulled our 18 Ft Boat that my dad was using on the back of the penske. Now I'd like to consider myself in pretty good physical shape.. but it really beat up my body driving that flat benched truck all the way back out here haha. I felt like a real Truck driver haha. But here's some pics of the journey:
his House on 3 acres.. it was a very nice place.
My new truck =-) Thank you so much dad, i'll take care of it just like you did!!!
my new tool box and set up!
A tractor trailer went up in flames on the way back from Albequerque New Mexico.. backed up the other side of the freeway for miles. Now, I got my associates degree in Fire Science..and not one response worker (firefighter, medic, emt, or police officers) were wearing respirators. I was like what the hell...?!! because you could visibly see some type of metal melted to all hell in the back end ....or what was left of it in the back side of the truck. I could also smell something definitely toxic when my windows were cracked just the slightest bit.
previously a 18 wheeler...
a nice sun-set driving home..
and miles driven in 24 hours....
more to come in the next week!!! stay tuned!

Your aunt is a douche, probably one of the most douche-iest douchers I've ever heard of. Sorry you had to deal with that, especially after already losing your Dad.
That is a nice house and property though! I'd also love a setup like that. And he left you some cool stuff. If only your douchey aunt would have given all of it to you like she was supposed to.

holy ****, that is ridiculous!!! hope karma bites her in the *** for that. Lost my mom this past feb. and there's 9 of us total and we were the opposite of that, we were just trying to get over our lost and helped each other instead of fighting for stuff
