^^You know it. I want a very positive end. The DMH ecutout shipped yeterday and is due in Thursday or Friday. I'm calling back then to see what the schedule is for me coming in.

I don't know if the car doesn't have low end torque, can't really tell from the dyno but have asked George to ensure the car has as much available as possible. The turbo should spool quickly as it is a bb model.

Question

David, stock tranny and diff right? I remember Carlisi telling me stories he'd heard of 20Bs ripping the teeth off 4th gear during WOT pulls. Not trying to rain on your parade or anything.....Chris was always careful in 4th gear when I rode with him, although he let it rip in 3rd gear quite often

Yep, stock tranny and diff. This will be the next issue for me, when/if I get the car back. DMH was supposed to have the ecutout to Gotham by yesterday but it didn't show.

I have a Supra Mark IV 6-speed tranny with conversion setup (except for driveshaft) for you after you blow up your stock tranny

What has been your experience so far and what do your guys recommend?

Gordon
Haven't had any experience with this yet Gordon. Spoke at length about the issue with Chris (: and we both agreed to run the cars and deal with the issue when it arose. It's not a matter of if but when I'm afraid.

I've followed a few threads on this forum about conversions and I don't know that what I'd want exists. The closest was the Supra 6 speed conversion. When I do it I really want a paddle shift option for the car. I also want something that is OEM in quality and don't want it to appear to be cobbled together.

As an update, my DMH ecutout arrived at Gotham on Friday so this is the last piece needed to complete the project. The race Ready unit rattled so Gotham decided to go DMH and the unit, like everything on the car, took a long time to arrive. As it is a 4 inch cutout, it had to be special made. George needs to wire up the unit to the Haltech and then to do some street tuning. I'll speak to Gotham tomorrow, but I think I'll be there either on next Saturday or maybe Monday, depending on flights.

David, I'm hoping you can help me out, I understand that you have an RX8 lighted shift **** on your 7, I'm guessing a 5 speed. I've searched all over the internet and can only find non-lighted shift *****. Where did you purchase your RX8 lighted shift ****?
I appreciate your help and look forward to seeing some pics of your completed 7.
Thanks, mike

David, in regards to the usual "a mustang dyno reads 10% lower than a dynojet" that always is stated when a mustang dyno graph is provided, is it a possiblity that once the car is done that you can visit a dynojet, if one is nearby where you live, and see the difference? I'm just curious about that since it always comes up.

Yes, I've thought of the BMW tranny but can it handle the horsepower? We know it's good for 500 HP but that's at the crank so it's more like 425 WHP. Can it handle another 200+?

And yes, the cutout bypasses the exhaust and dumps to atmosphere. It will stay closed though (and thus use the exhaust) until above 12 PSI or so.

Yes, that's the plan. We have a few options here in Jax but maybe I can take the car over to a dynojet in Dallas when I'm there.

I spoke with Chris about this and in the end he decided that the T56 transaxle was too big to work. David, You may check and see what they are using in the new ISF if cost isn't too much of an issue for you -though I don't know if the shifting parameters are controlled within the ECU (in which case you may not be able to retrofit it) or integrated via a stand-alone box. I drove an ISF at Summit about 3 weeks ago and I was thoroughly impressed with the shift speed and quality of the 8-speed transmission.

Another viable option is the new 6-speed Tremec transmission used in the Shelby GT500 or viper since support will be much less of an issue. This isn't going to give you a paddle shift option, but it will certainly work with an adapter plate and a couple taylor machined bits and pieces.

I'm excited to see some video of this beast in action.

wow, i cant beleive i got sucked in to reading 94 pages of this....i think its cause it hit home for me. i took my car to cam @ petitt with an open checkbook and told him i wanted him to make my 93 fd a front mount intercooled single turbo minimum 550rwhp car and i didnt care about its reliability or driveablity, what i got is the only thing he can really build is a 400rwhp rx7 like everyone elses and hours on the phone with him trying to talk me into it. i finally got fed up and told him "build what u want" just so i could get my car back. then the tour began for other people to finish most of what i wanted but the car never got finished because i just got inpatient and upset that i already spent money with petitt and then i had to spend it again so i sold it. moral of the story: cam and his team @ petitt are exceptional technicians but really cannot build or tune anything outside of the what the buld everyday.....reliable, low horsepower rx7`s

20b in not *** hard as you thing.

Putting in a 20b with a single turbo is not as hard as most peuple think. Im putting one in an rx8 at work. all you need is someone to make the manifold and mounts. Now the mounts are the hard part. there is two way to mount a 3 rotor.
drop in witch is pritty easy but, the steering rack has to be moved and makes the car front heavy. and the second is kicking the fire wall back 3 inches. then drop it in and that will clear the rack. I can post some pics if you guys like. Im building a full bridge port 3 right now. Its going to have twin gt35r's on it. I will put pics up when its done. Im going for 1000 whp in my 7 this winter.

physically mounting the engine isn't too terrible. Theres actually a kit out there that covers everything including the alternator relocation.

But, tuning the car, finding a radiator, intercooler, oil coolers, all of that **** plus wiring etc. The car in this thread took a long time because of all the shops and the fact that the engine was built for 700rwhp with custom oversized studs etc.

I'm assuming you are talking about the one I'm doing. Please do not try to represent my business or work as your own. Helping clean the shop and performing some general disassembly was the extent of your duties for the 4-5 days you helped out.

Owned!

The original post of the ease of a 3 rotor installation had me grinning. It's not a simple task to complete and if you think it is, you're in for a rude and expensive education.

I think this sums up Pettit really well: they're great mechanics at what they do, building reliable but not powerful RX7s. My 20B experience was similar to yours, I let Cam dictate what would be done on the car and the end result didn't meet my HP expectations. Unfortunately didn't meet my build standards other. If you've read the thread you'll know what I mean. MY previous 2 rotor work from them was top-notch though.

Not really. I hired him partime/temporaly to help organize and clean up the shop. He is a very nice guy, but his services are no longer needed.
