Tire brand help

Thanks for the responses. I'm excited to have this underway.

Now for the help. What brand tires are the best? This is my street car so I'd like something that is comfortable as well as good handling. I've run Michelins and Toyos in the past, but what is the best nowdays?

Any advice would be helpful! Remember, my wheels are Forgeline WC3s, 18X9 in front and 18X12.5 in the back.

I have the Pettit 99 spec front bumper. When the car is painted, I'm going to have the lip painted glossy to match the front end.

As for the arms, legs, and kidneys, it sometimes feels like that. I do have a great wife though - she said go ahead and do it! most excellent!

David,

If money is no object, then go with Michelin Pilot Sports or Bridgestone S03's. If you want to save a bit of money, and get a tire that is damn close to those for a fraction of the price (since your first set of tires prob won't last long anyway ), go with the Yokohama AVS ES100's. That is what I run. you can drive my car and get a feel for them if you would like. We still need to go out for that beer anyway.

Thanks Chris. I've run the Yokohamas in the past and they handled well. I've heard a lot about the Bridgestones though.

Pettit started installing the 20B yesterday. Can't wait to get the car back! The beer sounds good also!

Anything new with your RX7?

I run the Michelin ps2's and am very impressed with them. The wear and traction is very nice, along with the road handling. I usually run yokohama's on my FC but I think these are good for the FD. I definately recommend them.

Compared to the S03's, the Michelins are overpriced. Although TireRack is showing the Michelins to be reasonable priced now (it might be related to a rebate). I don't think there a justifiable difference between the two. I am on my 2nd set of Bridgestones.

Thanks for the advice. Pettit emailed pics to me but they're lost somewhere in the Internet. If you're name is David Hayes and you received my pics, how about posting them?

Seriously, I'll call Pettit this morning.

New Pictures

Hi,

Received these from Pettit today. The car is progressing on on its way to becoming a 3 rotor!

Attached is a picture of my car after the 2 rotors was removed. Note the 20b subframe has been installed and the wiring has begun. Also attached is a pictue of my 2 rotor engine that was removed. The engine is in great shape and is for sale. Apparently it may already be sold but Pettit is handling this for me. Finally, I've attached a picture of the new oil cooler that will be added to the car (in addition to the stock oil cooler). My understanding is the new oil cooler is larger than the old and the lines are also larger.

You mentioned you'll be getting the Apexi side skirts along with the Pettit rear flares...something I've been thinking about as well. Are you going to blend the skirts in with the flares? If so, I can't wait to see how it'll look, especially with your 99 front end. When will all this be done again?

Will definately post more pics as I receive them. There is a fine line between wanting lots of pictures and interrupting the guys that are working on the car to get them to take pictures.

I'm sticking with the twins for now - may think about a single later down the line.

Yes, I'm having the Apexi side skirts blended with the flares. Think this will give the car the best look (kind of stock but with a more agressive stance - at least this is what I picture in my mind).

Will keep the posts and updates coming!

Smile New Pictures!!

Hi all,

Just received several new pictures from Pettit. Here's a shot (although not sure why you would care) of the 3 rotor intake manifold:

Here is a picture of the engine installed in the bay. It's a little blurry:

Another shot of the engine, less blurry:

Here is a close up picture of the pulley system and the new radiator and dual fans. Pettit calls this a "NASCAR" radiator (does this mean I now need to watch NASCAR?):

Here is a shot of the new 3 rotor oil cooler and oil lines. My understanding is this gets added on in addition to the stock oil cooler:

A final shot of the new intercooler (the cardboard is optional):

Hope you enjoy these. Will post more as soon as I receive them. My understanding is that Pettit is currently working on the computer system and on relocating the air conditioning condensor and lines.

Within the next 45 days. The engine work should be done in 2 weeks or so, but I'm also having body work performed so it should be 45 days.

so these are the stock pulleys or aftermarket pullies? it looks like you're keeping AC and PS. do you know if they are using an FD waterpump?

My suggestion is to keep the car clean on the outside (I think you planned on a 99 JDM front end?) and keep the car running sweet.

My comment is that this is a freaken badass car in the end.

My question is can you reserve the sale of this vehicle in 5 years to me? because honestly, when the day comes, I want to buy an FD with a 20b or do it myself...Dead Serious.

I'll contact you when I'm "making gold plated records.." (SNL Skit :P)

one more question that maybe you can answer? are they using the stock 20b AC and power steering pump? or are they using 13b pumps? thanks
