a pretty penny invested but still a car that will rival most cars in the half million dollar range when it is finally completed.
Agreed. The horrible part was the last few weeks in CA. I'm now over that and looking forward to getting the car back. Gotham calls about everyday and they're getting close. Money does help so the financial burden is eliminated but it's funny how attached I've become to the car. Bought it new in 1994 and now she's my "other women"

David, I sent you a PM a minute ago. And I didn't realize that you are the original owner of this car. You have kept it in immaculate shape! I think what I'm looking forward to most is your reaction after you get a chance to drive it for the first time with all of the new goodies installed.

Hi Zach,

Just PM'd you back.

I fell in love with the FD from the first time I saw one. I literally did a u-turn on the road to follow one to see what kind of car it was. After test driving one, I was hooked.

Bought it new in 1994 for $34,500, a ton of money back then. Was a gift to myself for meeting a key revenue goal I had for my company (www.tempus.com). I still remember the 45 minute drive coming home from St. Augustine. Had the sunroof open, the windows down, and the CD player blaring. My **it-eating grin was priceless. Still get that feeling today.

Can't wait to get it back. The "goodies" should be fun and keep that smile going. Latest goodies - Gotham's also installing the PLX sensors and guage monitors in the car.

Yes, we competed (I sold the company to Quadramed about two years ago - hence the three rotor conversion) against them in the scheduling and access management field. When I started Tempus, I was the first in the industry to do true enterprise-wide (multi-facility) scheduling. The only difference between our systems is our products actually worked Cerner was always promising true enterprise capabilities but couldn't really deliver, at least as of 2004. Cerner would win business based on the large size of their organization. When I sold Tempus, I tried to get Cerner involved to no avail.

Guess I should have asked you if you work at Cerner before posting the above, right? I see you live in the hometown of Cerner's HQ.

Thanks, I can't wait to have the car back. Talked to Steve tonight and they were busy wiring up the Haltech unit. Hence, today's issue. The wires for the OMP have been ripped out of the unit, rendering it inoperable. Fortunately, it looks like Steve has an extra one. That would have been fun, thinking the OMP was hooked up and it really wasn't. I have been premixing but little did I know how critical it really was.

Steve certainly knows these cars, but I've been pre-mixing Idemitsu with no OMP for about six months now with no issues....I believe it's a more robust solution to the apex seal lubrication issue, and pre-mixing takes all of 20 seconds at the pump...I also believe injecting four stroke oil into the combustion chamber contributes to deposits, my car always smoked like crazy when I got on the gas (when I ran an OMP)

anyway, glad to hear your car is on the right track, David....when are you moving to Asheville?

I've always premxed too for an extra bit of safety but I don't want this as the only solution so I'm going to install another OMP.

Asheville is going to happen this summer. Will break ground by March. Looking forward to taking the car on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

david, i feel ur pain.

it makes my mere 3 month wait with mazsport almost negligeable. my rx8 should be done with 20b by late feb-early march of next year. mazsport has kept a great rep with the rx8 community, so i decided to entrust them with mine. i don't know whether they're well known here too.

good luck! some video would be great when you get it back!

did you have any issues with traction while you had it?

My biggest surprise in all of this is Pettit. I am amazed they didn't get this correct in the first place. I have full faith in Steve, and I think he is prob the best in the business, but still thought very highly of Pettit. Other than Gotham or Pettit though, nothing surprises me in the rotary community anymore. So many HACKS destroying these cars now it's pathetic. And not just the paid "mechanics" but many individuals as well.

I doubt anyone disputes Pettit's lengthy actual race experience, their attention to detail, or ability as rotary pioneers. But from what has happened, *it seems* (and I say that b/c there's no solid evidence here) that Pettit simply fell victim to prioritizing a business partnership over the wellbeing of the customer. And unfortunately, I see this pattern one TOO many times when customers with essentially uncapped budgets approach shops and tell them "I want the best, and price is not an issue."

Again, IMO - based on assumptions and what David has shared w/ us - I think Pettit should have never bothered w/ the Wolf unit, as that was one of the biggest holdups in David's car. And even if they had some business agreement w/ Wolf, once they saw it was going to be too much trouble, and was negatively impacting their ability to deliver to the customer as promised, they should have pulled the plug.

Baptist? Mayo? Can't remember which one uses Cerner. We had management from both institutions over numerous times to our offices but could nver close the deal. We were too small ($8.5 million per year compared to $1+ billion for Cerner). Our products kicked a** though - were all completely automated.

It's a small world, right? I did okay so I'm not complaining

I've heard both good and bad about mazsport - not any different than most rotary shops. Would probably have taken it to Crispeed's shop had I known more about him.

My $0.02 - Not sure it had a lot to do with the Wolf business relationship. Remember, when my car was a Pettit, they had two hurricanes that shut down the shop for awhile. Also, Cam Worth's mom died and he was really close to her. I think the financial strain of getting the shop back up and running and the emotional strain of losing his mother had more to do with the results of my project than other factors.

Also, Cam was going to use the Links (sp?) EMS on my car and he had bullet-proof maps for this. When this was not available, this sent him scrambling. My understanding is he's now learned a lot about EMS systems and more about tuning them, but my car suffered.
