Building a USDM Spirit R Replica
#30
Spirit R ABS I got from Jason but I havent seen him around.
I think I saw the newer spec bracing from Japan2LA one time. I forget if that was from a 95 or actually what I think is the newer style. Come to think of it, I forget where I read about that now. I'll try to find the source. Honestly, we should try to get hwnd in here to clarify. He seems to know what parts came from where very well.

Thanks Dennis. I just need that one last piece and I'll call it quits. I've run out of steam and I'm to tired to chase after the other stuff.

It's crazy how common these are in Japan and how nobody cares about them or values them like they do in America. There's one down the street from me that hasn't moved in a month. I know that parking lot is $200 per month too so it just seems like a waste. When I check the auctions there's usually about 30 of these per day being auctioned. But I guess that won't help you because you need LHD parts.

Beautifully done, man.
Great job.
I wish I could at least SEE some other FD's in San Diego that have even half the amount of time (and money) put into them, as some of the major forum members on the east coast do..
Maybe I'll start finding them, or they'll find ME, once I get my FD out here..
:P
Part of me would have liked to gone with an authentic '99-'02 styling like you have, but I think I've decided to style my FD in a way that I consider "modernizing" it.
I wish I could see your FD in person though... :[

My 2JZ project has been going on for 1 1/2 years already. I've become so restless over it...going back and forth over different "What if" statements.
According to the guy I have finishing it, he just needs a few more parts then he can finish it. I'm hoping if he gets the parts in this week, that he'll at least have the car 100% put together and running by next week.
Hopefully once it's at least driveable, it won't take too long to get it over to the guy who's gonna tune it.
My HOPE *crosses fingers* is that the car will be ready to be shipped within ONE month from now.
I am confident that when I drive the car again for the first time in 1 1/2 years, that I'll fall in love with it all over again. The FD is that kind of car, after all.

Sorry to take it off topic, because like Supernaut I love Spirit-R. Post like this really discourage our enthusiast and it may not true at all.

I may believe that 1 Spirit-r hasn't moved part but I don't believe 30 Spirit-r being auctioned per day. Common! 1500 Spirit-r built world wide. That couldn't be 30 per day in auction. You may mistake from regular JDM FD.

Nobody believes it but you can't get rid of these cars here. Nobody wants them and dealerships can't sell them, even for cheap, so they just auction them off.
Last time I had to take a screenshot of the auto auction online system to prove it. There were 71 RX7's auctioned off that day and half of them were 99+. Some of them for cheap as $3,000. All of them were perfect condition too. They have pictures and inspection report sheets for every car that is auctioned off. So even the cheap ones you can read the report.
The problem with the cars is that they fall into the heavy car category (3XX license plate vehicle class code) not the compact car class (5xx) because they are 16mm too wide. So because of that license plate some parking spaces will make you buy a more expensive spot or just pay for two spots. A parking spot even here in suburbs of Tokyo is $300/month. The cheapest you can find in Tokyo is $500 per month. In addition to that it's getting harder to make these cars pass inspection because of their age. You're looking at at least $2,000 every two years if nothing goes wrong, but this is an RX7 so you know you'll be spending money on it. That's why if you ever see someone driving a car this old, it's usually because they love it. It's way cheaper to buy a new sports car, like an S2000. So all and all you can't give these things away. Even to auction them off to be exported is difficult because in America at least you have to pay ridiculous amounts to get one of these imported. The car might cost $3,000, but importing it would be like $30,000. It is possible to do however.

50,0000 km. Sold for 850,000 yen today.
There were only 38 auctioned today actually. 4 Bathurst R's, 2 Spirit R's.
Just an array of the rest. This one says Type R Basasoto. I'm trying to translate the Japanese, it might be another Bathurst R. The Katakana says "バサースト"

So that was 38 RX7's and 2 Spirit R's auction already by 11am. By the time I updated the post it was 39 auctioned. Usually it's around 70 per day.

That's the best way to do it. The happiest military guys in the world are the one's here. They get a huge break on registration and taxes plus plenty of free parking. It seems like the only way to really have your cake and eat it too.

Sorry no affiliation to the military, they wouldn't even let me on the Navy base. I tried to go and buy cheap groceries and big energy drinks but they wouldn't let me on without an escort and retna scan lol. They actually said I need a "Biometric scan" to get on.
But I have seen the military guys with all their sweet cars, so I know about it. There's a few on this forum.
I have no idea what an NEC is or DDG's.

Basically, I am Navy, but my job limits me to ships that are not stationed in or anywhere near Japan.
