Thanks, still going through with it so we'll see how this goes...![Icon Tup](https://www.rx7club.com/images/smilies/icon_tup.gif)
Lol for reals. after doing more research i came across a thread on the EVO forum about a guy building his own wing too.. jesus, that forum had so many more users contributing rather then bashing. All the guy said was "i've never used composites before and im going to make a wing" and posts later people were giving advice and tips and explaining things... Not here, you get ridiculed for every decision and thing you do, when teaser pics are revealed for a PROTOTYPE. really makes me want to post somewhere else.. might not be too bad of an idea.
weither it gets *****'d out for being the dumbest creation ever, or on the news because i flipped over, you'll see it![Smilie](https://www.rx7club.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
YUP, **** show, same trolls as always. thanks man still churning hard to get her done for DGRR![Icon Tup](https://www.rx7club.com/images/smilies/icon_tup.gif)
Thanks David. I started out knowing absolutely nothing, its build threads like yours, collins, gordons, mannys, blackade, etc that fuel me to keep going, try something different weither it be better or worse. THATS why i post, to help people get ideas flowing.
100% with you on #2 i use to frequent this forum a lot but in the past years the community has been dominated by a bad aurora, i dont even waste time reading posts anymore, just to check out a few worthy builds that inspire. Maybe ill check out speedhunters forum, could be fun
Yeah.... like how he fell off the face of the earth for the past few months!!
yeah maybe thats true, but half don't know how to communicate with respect.
Nope i dont care, just shows how big of a douche bag people can be.
Yeah your discussion tend to be more of smart *** remarks and sarcastic comments like the one above. None of you are looking for a discussion, just more reason to troll and criticize everything i do. None of you "follow" my thread, you guys only simple comment when you find something i do you bash me for... this is why the community sucks compared to years ago. and I know for a fact i am not the only one who feels this why. thats why this forum has a bunch of disappearing members.![Icon Tdown](https://www.rx7club.com/images/smilies/icon_tdown.gif)
Exactly. Its ironic how the whole posse comes to chime in when NONE of you are:
a. interested in making a wing
b. buying my wing
c. concerned because you "drive behind me and fear for your life"
d. actually made a wing before
So really, why do ANY of you care? there is absolutely not evidence my wing with "fail" I HIGHLY doubt any of you actually have real world experience with composites either. Just because you "briefly went over it in one of your classes" or because you "fiberglassed a crack in your bumper" doesnt make you credible. I'm not saying im a profession because im far from it, but i'm willing to bet i know much more about composites then majority of you.
So i'll try this one more time. for anyone interested learning about aerodynamics, heres some useful stuff i came across.
Here's a good link i found... pretty basic but fairly easy to understand. Pretty cool, nothing better then building fenders for aesthetics to find out they actually function![Lol](https://www.rx7club.com/images/smilies/lol.gif)
Aerodynamic Downforce - Go Faster By Sticking Tighter - Circle Track Magazine
Ah finally found the evo forum link again. super awesome read if anyone is actually interesting in making there own wing.. and wow. now that is a community, so much useful input from a bunch of members
Building a GT Wing - evolutionm.net
Now as far as testing, for people who fail to realize, computers and programs to run analysis were not always around. plenty of other ways to do test...
A windtunnel and fancy computer programs are NOT the only way to learn about your design.
DIY home "wind tunnel simulator"
"do you even own a fog machine at home?" yes, i do have a fog machine.
Tuft method- tape, yarn and a camera...
As far as strength i have no fancy equipment for this. i doubt my 20ton press putting all that load in one localized area will really tell me anything. for this, I will simply just try breaking it. throw it in the air, whip it at something, drive over it with my truck, who knows, I'll just caveman style this ****. I'll make a video for your enjoyment![Icon Tup](https://www.rx7club.com/images/smilies/icon_tup.gif)
Now since everyone had me second guessing my design, I figured I should read up on aerodynamics a bit more. with that said I am confident nothing tragic will happen, worse comes to worse, I will have a ton of drag because i made an insane camber (my opinion compared to the foil designs i have seen)
But just for verification, can I assume this is all relative?
Longer distance vs shorter distance on object = High pressure vs low pressure? aka surface of an airfoil or car, or inversely? the insides (top and bottom) of ducts?
Now back to all things not aerodynamic...
so i began cutting up my rear fender to prep for the over fenders. marked the line and cut, wow cake this is going to be easy. at first i tried just banging (stretching) the existing fender well and that was a terrible idea. As the metal is already thin, then grinding it to have a clean surface, i just kept blowing through it and had a hard time getting a good ground without the ground clamp in the way. so off that went. i cut a rectangle piece out, got some 20 gauge mild steel i have stocked up and cut it with a little over hang so i had extra to trim. (better too much then too little) With my stomp shear it was a piece of cake. tack/spot welded it in place and then it went to pooh from there. i had trouble with finding the right settings, blowing through the body (after grinding it was super thin) BUT i managed to get them sealed. i lapped the sheet metal on the inside fender and corner? "t"? welded the arch. im' going to seam seal them to make sure no moisture gets in then spray some paint to protect it from rust.. only pic i took-- yes she bleeds red...

also got my rivnuts and fancy bolts for the over fender. these bolts are cool, 2 tiny dots that require a special screwdriver to remove them... I thought it was pretty cool since ive never came across them, and well they are different, so cool to me. Cons? well if i lose my special screw driver or dont have it on the spot well im pretty screwed lol. anddd i think they might strip out easily... lets pray that doesnt happen lol

Benny and Collin, I love reading both of your threads and hope you choose to continue posting up progress. It saddens me greatly what has gone on in this thread for the past few days but please note the vast majority of us appreciate what you do.
You've both got mad skills and I really like the ideas and concepts you are developing. Keep it up and keep posting please![Smilie](https://www.rx7club.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)

No one directed anything at me and I don't have anything personal against anyone on here.
The reason for my post is that I come on here to do 3 things:
1: see cool pictures of cars
2: get new ideas/share my ideas
3: buy and sell parts to help with my projects
Now every time I come on here to do number 1 and 2, I have to sift through retarded arguments and it has become a waste of time. There are other forums where guys actually focus on building cars, and even when one guy does something stupid or people don't like it, they just say "that sucks" or "thats a dumb way to do something" and move on. Here it gets drawn out and goes on and on and on and on and on.
So for number 1 and number 2 ill stick to speedhunters and a few other forums.

This forum has thousands of members. Just like in real life, not everyone is going to get along. I see no reason for someone to not post a criticism of something if they believe there is an issue with it, but it should be done in a respectable manner. I guess the second part of that statement is up to interpretation. Not everything always translates via text on a post as it is intended to come across. If there was no sharing of ideas or red flags pointed out to one another, our learning process as a community would be much slower. Not taking sides one way or another, but maybe people on both sides should get a bit thicker skin.
That being said, looking forward to seeing how this turns out. And wtf is that in your truck, looks like a coffin haha.

thanks, I thought that was going to be the easiest thing i was making... turns out it was the hardest.... and not planning a head didnt help either lol... are you going to DGRR this year?

What is the load rating of the jack stand? Have you done any calculations to make sure it can handle the stresses at highway speed? Additionally, what brand zipties do you plan to use and that is their plastic composition?
On a serious note, what method did you use to make the fenders symmetrical? I know when making something custom like that it is harder to make the second match the first.

If you look back two pages? i posted how i made the fenders.. i dont know if they are 100% symmetrical, but i doubt anyone could tell without using a measuring tools... but I'm still sanding and only have paint on them so its tough to even tell if they are symmetrical at this time..

^^ Thanks! I cant stand looking at them anymore.. ive put in probably 10 hours in just sanding them the past 2 sessions. my arms are deadddddd.
Originally for the fenders i was going to make a mold and lay up new fenders so they are 100% fiberglass but now im contemplating if thats even worth it anymore.. The material for the molds will be 200+ and more time. might hold off on that for now and just rock these 20lbs fenders for now.......
oh yay more sanding. just did the rough sand on the top of the spoiler and sprayed if black to use it as a "guide coat" for the next layer..
ps APR GTC-200 on top.. for size reference... pss this thing is hugeeeeeee

Well today i realized how big of an idiot i am. I didnt fiberglass up the b? pillar enough and the cut line was way too low and looked like ***. so im currently extending that portion.
On top of that i hate where i ended the rear fender, it leaves a "line/crease" right on the side, which is fine if i ran normal side skirts, but since ill be running flat panel skirts, it will just look stupid. so i extended those as well. I'll be trimming the bottom edge like feed's skirts, vertically.

Also began to install the rear over fenders. i'm using rivnuts, and i LOVE them. which i knew about them a while ago, they're so cool. ive been trying to figure out the name of them since ive sold my CF M2 Air box!
just on a dinner break.. will be back to sanding and glassing in a few for update #3 of the day.
