Bubbles Build Thread

haha im taking it to an amateur (aka Im doing it)
vinyl related.
i think the hood, fenders, doors, and hatch will be a breeze.
i think the front bumper will be OKAY
i think i will butcher the rear.
for the whole "chassis' im not exactly sure what to do since its huge and will mostlikely have to have a seam.
i think im just gonna spray the door jams flat white too.... vinyling them as well w/o a seam seems way too difficult.

bad pic but reinforcing the bottom
![](http://i426.photobucket.com/albums/pp342/muibenjamin/DSC_1663.jpg)
lathe'd an arm for the mirrors... looks like a simple straight piece will work, now i just got to find the right height and make a new bracket that reuses the stock holes

hahah inspired by our buddy carsey!! its a HUGE PITA tho and to get it to work is kinda hard.. if it was aluminum and i could weld it it would be more sucessfull hopefully my hood doesnt break lol
haha youre absolutely right! the are disgustingly high, im still mocking up. i was just testing if i made the arm straight if it would provide the right angle for the mirror to be perpendicular. i did that at like 1 am on the lathe so didnt feel like turning it dow to figure the right height lol. but its still in the "prototyping" phase
he gave me a special deal but honestly its only a few bucks more. look around and their pricing alone is muchhhh better then competitors.. check out stickercity.com and their pricing then compare it to AVS....
mirrors were 160? shipped i believe.. 20-30 less then apr universal ones.. but i prefer this style over just the rectangles...![Icon Tup](https://www.rx7club.com/images/smilies/icon_tup.gif)
tomorrows goal, sand door jams, remove doors and hatch... EEKS!
sorry i wasn't clear. did you order for the price on the site or call and get a better deal? i need to order matte black and carbon to do some work on the sti and wrap my r1 as well as a few other things on the fd so as much as i need to order any savings will be welcome. also interested in how the mirrors turn out as thats a big savings over the apr gt3s.![Icon Tup](https://www.rx7club.com/images/smilies/icon_tup.gif)

Why the hoods off...? fiber glassing the center duct to give the UIM/engine some air flow....
first i add a few layers of wax on plexi glass then add some FG and resin
![](http://i426.photobucket.com/albums/pp342/muibenjamin/DSC_1688.jpg)
once its dry i peeled it off and i get a nice flexible piece.nice "panel" to give the shape of the duct.

Andddddddddddddddddddd what all of you have been waiting for.... finally started to vinyl... and damn it is harder than physics (im taking physics for the 3rd time this semester =( wahh)
**Disclaimer** I have no idea what i am doing and i am making up my own rules as i go along. I am doing what makes sense to me. do not use this as a tutorial.
The tools
![](http://i426.photobucket.com/albums/pp342/muibenjamin/DSC_1669.jpg)
first i took the "squeegee" and soft side of the velcro and applied it to one end. this gives a smooth side to apply pressure.
measured out the vinyl and cut!
![](http://i426.photobucket.com/albums/pp342/muibenjamin/DSC_1667.jpg)
![](http://i426.photobucket.com/albums/pp342/muibenjamin/DSC_1668.jpg)
dont be cheap. its better to cut too much then too little. i was cheap. i was a few inches short but idc since its on the bottom, and since there will be side skirts over it.
lay it out. (i held it in place with magnets) fold half of it back, peel backing and cut the backing. now apply
![](http://i426.photobucket.com/albums/pp342/muibenjamin/DSC_1673.jpg)
now do the bottom half
![](http://i426.photobucket.com/albums/pp342/muibenjamin/DSC_1674.jpg)
trim and tuck vinyl over.
![](http://i426.photobucket.com/albums/pp342/muibenjamin/DSC_1675.jpg)
viola!
![](http://i426.photobucket.com/albums/pp342/muibenjamin/DSC_1676.jpg)

Not to be a dick but please dont ask me how to do it. this is my first time EVER doing this (minus a few test pieces) i really dont know what im doing and im trying different things each time. i know there is a proper way but i havent figured it out. ive been doing a lot of it by feel/touch. IF YOU WANT TO VINYL YOUR CAR buy a LITTLE first and do it on some DIFFICULT pieces. if you still feel confident then go ahead and try it. there really is a learning curve and this cant be taught by reading or a tutorial. you NEED to try it out on your own. i consider myself very crafty so i was confident after a few pieces i tried that werent 100% successful. I really dont feel confident enough to give advice as i dont want to be liable as its pretty risky and expensive to try.
just to give an idea...
i did my headlight covers a while back and had decent results considering it was my first time EVER.
i then tried the fender vent and failed pretty bad. it is a very difficult piece
now today, the first fender took me the whole miami vs orlando game.
second fender took me less than an hour
the other little piece (part of the 99 spec side skirts) took me about 30-45 minutes.
overall, the the visible exterior looks pretty good. where you bolt the fender (hides under hood) came out like ****. i didnt care as it was such a huge PITA i said fck it. it was also tough holding the fender and stretching the vinyl by myself. often i would get crap on my fingers and dirty the vinyl.. it looks like it will be a PITA to keep clean. idk if it is even washing out......
cheeeeeeeeeeers mate

I love DINOC!! but your right... It can be a major pain in the *** to get "right." I failed major doing my interior guage panel.. seems as if having an extra buddy there to help would make all the difference in the world. I think the hardest pieces will be your roof because of the windshield and how it breaks down to 2 thin strips on either side. and your hood because you have an aftermarket one with lots of contours...and the area of the hood itself is pretty big. Almost a 3 man job... Hope your friends like you;-) Can't wait to see the finished product!!

Just caught up on this dude - awesome work. Loving what you're doing here man - engine bay is lookin faaaaaaaaahhhhnn.
I'm a long way away so I have no idea what all the personal shiz was that was going on earlier, but a build thread's no place for junk like that - keep on keepin' on man. You're working some magic, that's for sure, as it's the first time I've ever seen a Scoot hood on a car and not wanted to burn my eyes

did a little work today, no pics, but im going back at it again tomorrow so ill get some pics..
still doing a lotttttt of prepping. the hatch is nearly prepped.
rear bumper is sanded and the holes are being filled as we speak(de-badged and close the key hole since it doesnt work)
sanded the side skirts, an reinforced the other one. (wrapped one more of the smaller side of the 99 spec skirt)
added more fg layers to the hood underside duct as well as the opening where it cracked. and the windshield wiper nozzles/will get filled tomorrow
also wrapped a headlight cover but dropped the other one and scuffed it so thats being reprepped..
idk what else super tired and cant think lol..... till tomorrow...
