I love watching for updates here. I also love the 13B-REW you built for me that runs like a champ. After I graduate from nursing school I'll be starting my journey on my next FD roller and 20B so I enjoy watching what you do as I'll probably have you hook me up with another reliable engine. Well love the progress and keep us updated with what this thing does.

Pulled the diff, half shafts and driveshaft out. I figured as long as I have the car in the air I would pull the 10 year old Tokico Illuminas out and check them for wear. Both the rears were completely shot. Opted to go with new Koni Sports on all four corners , with new upper & lower spring seats/mounts. http://banzai-racing.com/store/93+_rx-7_Koni_shock.html
I picked up the new/reman halfshafts this afternoon, if I get some time tomorrow I will install the new Chromoly axles in them.

New driveshaft
New Chromoly axles
I am thinking of putting together a "How-To" for installation of the axles in the halfshafts. I think there are people that could benefit from this.

I considered coilovers, however this is a street car. I did not want to sacrifice ride quality. We have many customers with different coilovers and they are all very rigid, not great for anything but brand new smooth pavement. You get on a normal road with a few cracks or dips and the cars all feel like they are going to break apart. If it were strictly a road course car it would already have them.
The Koni's provided the adjustable perch height (not as easy to adjust) and there was no problem reusing the existing Eibach springs. I have found that on street cars once you get the suspension dialed in to where you like it, you do not mess with it for years. The infinite adjustability of coilovers is just overkill and for the most part not utilized and in the process ride quality is sacrificed.
This is just my opinion.

I notice you are not using an idler pulley where the air pump would be. Have you noticed a loss of friction between the water pump pulley and belt because of the small contact area?

It is impossible to put an idler where the air pump was, there is a huge turbo in that location. Ours is located under the water pump. No, the WP does not slip.

It did not slip at all in that configuration either. I prefer not to underdrive the alternator, so we installed the idler to allow the stock size alt pulley.

This may be a stupid question, but how do the shocks themselves affect the stance of the car? When the car is just sitting there, aren't the springs what determines the height? I thought the shocks were only doing work when driving and different vertical forces are being put on the wheels/car.
Or in this case, are the spring mounting points different than the stock location?

The Koni sports have adjustable spring perches. See the three grooves around the center of the shock ? This allows the perch to be raised or lowered 15mm in the rear and 10mm front

Forgot to mention that I also swapped out the Tanabe Concept G for the Apexi PS Revo. Both systems are very quiet at idle and cruise, however the Apexi is far less restrictive as it is 3.75" diameter and has the active valve tailpipe silencer that opens up the moment you put your foot into the trottle. I did back to back testing and the car went from 440hp to the previously posted 510hp without any other changes.

What would I possibly have to gain by lying about it? I have already posted dyno sheets for 510 and 529rwhp, it is not like I am saying I gained power and don't have the sheets to prove it.
Obviously you have no idea how restrictive the Tanabe Concept G is. The reason it is so quiet, is that it basically reduces the exhaust down to a 2" outlet. Great for the decibel levels not so great for HP levels.
We see similarly large (%) HP gains on vehicles with the HKS exhausts that have the slide in silencer. Remove the silencer, pick up 50-60hp.
The Apexi PS Revo has the luxury of the silencer at idle, then the wide open race muffler as soon as the throttle is opened up.
