Vehicle licensing and the engine number Please read
I have an RX7 Fd that is landed in Perth from Japan, a 1994 model. I know that the vehicle registration body require both the chassis number and the engine number to register the vehicle. Problem is, I hear that the engine number is very difficult to locate without mucking about with the engine bay. Is this true? I have the actual engine number from Mazda Japan. Has anyone had experiences with finding the engine plate in Oz? Would simply having the number suffice, or do they need to take out the engine. Please help.

went through this recently with an FD i sent back to brisbane
no one could find the number so eventually the police stamped a new number on
the engine number is stamped onto the front steel layer? of the engine, right under the alternator, apparently some very early FD don't have any number???
if you know the engine number already use that on the paperwork and hope like hell they don't ask to see it.
if they ask to see it explain that it isn't ever needed for japanese paperwork and so mazda never made an effort to make it visible on roatrys which have no main block. it is there but it is covered by the alternator and removing that is a job that takes hours
i've just posted a series of photos showing exactly where it is, forget about using a mirror and a light, you HAVE TO pull things out
