Thanks for that, would have thought the production numbers would have been considerably higher, especially on the introduction of a new good looking model.

it was always pretty expensive which is why they tried so hard to reduce the price by trimming little non-essentials like the dimmer, rear hatch light etc during it's run.
probably the biggest problem was that it just didn't sell well enough in the states. it was too "race" for wide appeal and seemed too complex for most users and dealers to cope with. the way so many engines were swapped under warranty must have killed any profit there from the small numbers sold
the FC probably was a much better money spinner
at least jack nasser, the australian head of ford, supported the rx8 from the start otherwise the bean counters would probably have killed off the rotary entirerly
if oil stays above us$50 a barrel though the rotary is probably dead anyway:o(
