AEM Installed AEM with basemap.

I'm sorry to hear this man...
I'm gonna hang in there for now I can't afford to throw $1300 into the wind and go to Power FC which has its share of issues to deal with... I would like to hear from a power FC guy with datalogit what their OilMeetering Pump maps are set to....
Maybe a XL Spreadsheet or something to show how much oil at what throttle pos / coolant temp...

No problems with the oil metering pump with the PFC. I've got plenty of logs now and will show boost/OMP voltage to see if it's fine.
Hate to hear the AEM isn't as great as the hype they let on before it was released. Maybe they'll get off their *** and fix it..update it and support it better.

The AEM is only as great as its tuner. It will generally do whatever you want it to do, but if you don't know what your doing, or how to get it to do what you want, than your going to have problems. Its very powerfull and does not come with a good starting point yet. Complaining that you can't get your car running with it most likely implies that your just not giving enough time to figure it out. Noone ever said tuning a car was an easy do it yourself process. If you want something simple to use that will get you running fast go with the PFC. If you want advanced control and options at the cost of diffuculty... go with the AEM.

you are probably right, but right now the support from AEM is not very good for the RX-7. They call it a plug and play. It would be much easier to tune if the baseline map was dependable. And someone from AEM would be able to answer general questions for example duty cylce for injectors, waste gate, duty cycle, and the fuel map.

Honestly guys, try spending the money and taking it to someone who's been trained by AEM and has tuned a few actual EMS units. I guarantee you won't be dissappointed. This thing wasn't created for people who aren't professional tuners....Not to be rude, but trust me when I say its not the EMS, its you.

Granted, but it's also not me, when I get told that SW6 is the ECU's Check engine light and when I install it and manually turn it on it doesn't lite... it's either the car or the ecu, and in this case, both because the stock ecu lights up the check engine fine, yet the AEM doesn't. The Aem was tested and was properly operating the voltage for SW6 yet somehow it didn't lite it up... so it must be something with that cars wireing harness that was made differently than the car that it was built for...
It seems like AEM has a good product that works on most cars, once tuned can be very nice... but as all things RX7 are expensive, and you can get cheap knockoffs and you can get more expensive stuff and it's all about what you want to do with the car...
I would say, plan on spending far more than the $ 1300 that the AEM costs for Wideband, and tuning... plan about $2300 if not more....
And I agree that qualified person can make your stuff run good, but what's troubblesome are some of the trickier things to tune, like cold start, cause once you start it you have to wait Hrs to try again... which is something I don't want to pay for... I'm all for getting High HP tuned professionally, but please(AEM) invest some time in getting a good basemap for idle and drivability. That should be independant of Turbo etc...

This new basemap still sucks.
Anybody having any luck yet?
I've given up. I'm installing a new turbo in a few months. After that I guess I'll try to take it to one of their "trained tuners" that has a shop like 5 hours away from me. If they can't tune it and get it running right then I'm gonna take a huge dump on this thing, put it in a box, and ship it back to AEM. Maybe that will get their attention.

They've said many times the base map is designed to get the car started and to a tuner or onto a dyno. You are not supposed to load the basemap then drive around with it.
As far as the starting problems, well, yes, that is a problem...

Yeah I have a new '93 "7" and I expect some of the troubble I had with the check engine light to go away...
Also I will hold off with the AEM untill I get a new Intercooler and possibly BNR stage 2 turbo...
Hopefully AEM will have their Schtuff together by then...

DC, do me a favor. Give Shawn Church a call or run by his shop. He's located in Torrence and is probably one of the best tuners in the country (He was actually featured in an article in NYTimes). I believe he's done the tuning for the "Temple Of Honda" N/A drag car that's hit low 10's.
Anyways, he recently got a Dynapack dyno, which is probably the best for tuning. He's a great guy, and you should just see how much he'd charge to get a decent basemap setup and get the cold-start kinks worked out.
I'll send ya a PM with his info. If anyone else is interested, PM me.
